University in finland, then moving there permanently

Post by Iloveanimals423 » Fri Jun 12, 2015 4:24 pm

I just think Finland seems so nice, different, and unique compared to the U.S., where I live now. I have been thinking ahead for my future for a while now, and would like to start planning it out now.
Is there any way I could go to Finland for university? I either want to be a veterinarian, own my own company, or be a surgeon. After University I would like to start my career there and live there permanently; this has been my dream for quite a while now.
I am 16 years old, with US citizenship, and Canadian citizenship.
I know that I would need to learn Finnish, which I am really interested (I love learning about different languages and cultures) which I plan to start this summer by taking a course online. Are there any other tips for this?

Also, what are some things that would help me stand out on an application to a Finnish university? I figure skate and love to write (thinking of working on a novel).

Thanks!

In addition to tummansininen's great post, I recommend that you check if there are any Finnish high schools that have some agreements with some high school groups in the U.S.
You might be able to do a semester here in Finland while you live with a host family.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Rotary International does student exchanges between the USA and Finland. And if I remember correctly you don't have to be a member to join the scheme but don't ask me any questions because I don't have any answers (I just happened to have an English-FL student who spoke to me about it).
