Satelite TV, Foreign Broadcasters and Soccer.

Moikka!

I've recently moved into Helsinki from US and I've been looking into my options for TV broadcasting. Briefly I'm trying to get as many US channels as possible, also I'm a big soccer fan so hopefully I'd like to be able to watch SkySports, Fox Sports or EuroSports. (Basically the leagues I'm interested in are, La Liga, Champions League, Premiere League, Bundesliga. Am I asking too much?)

I spoke to a few of the Broadcasting providers like Elisa, DNA, Sonera and technically they all said the same thing. I could get most of the leagues by signing up for minimum 2 plans and monthly it comes down to somewhere around 45 euros. However, the main problem is that those channels will be in Suomi and I will not get any other channels except Sports. (No US or UK channels, news etc...)

From my reading online, some people say that some satellite TV 'could' face reception problems due to Suomi's northern location. It would be very helpful if anybody could tell me their own experiences with Satellite dishes, how big they have to be, and what US,UK channels as well as Soccer channels they could get.

Kiitos paljon!

Helsinki... so most likely a flat? Is your balcony facing south? Will the housing coop allow installation of dish in your balcony? Will the authorities allow it (if it can be seen from outside, it needs a permission)?

http://www.satshop.fi/satellite-guide seems to have plenty of satellite related information. This might be one option worth looking into: http://www.insatinternational.com/sky_g ... ory_id=108 .

Also, unless you have been answered specifically that English language commentary is not available on the channels on cable, I suggest asking the service providers what exactly are they offering (usually a Finnish commentary is what locals are after, so cable providers' websites and material may say Finnish as they want to promote having that, even though they would have other languages selectable, likely English and/or Swedish, as well).
