We drove our guinea-pigs from Budapest through Europe and then Superfast ferried them from Rostock to Hanko and then to Espoo. No problems, we didn't declare them anywhere. But we did have all the paperwork just in case (ie: vet visit and clean bill of health in the 5 days preceding the move).
But if you are planning on flying up here then it's a definite no-no as the airlines do not take rodents.
PS: You can buy guinea-pigs up here.
PPS: Ours were eaten by a fox about 2 years after we moved here.

We are taking our bunny, (dont know if this is the same category) in about a week, have talked to both finnish and irish departments of agriculture and both say no problems....dont even need heath certs. Also had a chat with the vet. we are flying with sas, they take bunnies and i imagine guinea pigs at a cost of €50 per sector. I hope we dont have probs....but all seems to be going smoothly now....
hope this helps

Are you sure? I've heard lots of accounts of people flying with pet rodents, and many pet removal companies mention that on their websites.
Maybe the difference is that some airlines do not allow rodents (or any pets) to travel as carry-on, but they can go as cargo.

We are in London and are hoping to move to Finland around Christmas.By the way:
Did any of you take any green plants with you?
I am quite attached to two Jasmin plants next to the door of my house here in London.

I have a jasmin plant in front of my south-facing bedroom window (on the inside) and it's doing fine. But hardly any flowering perennial climbers are hardy enough for Finnish winters: a few clematis, hydrangeas and some honeysuckle, that's all.

I picked enough rhubarb for a pie yesterday.... first home-grown meal of the year (i.e. not out of the freezer), but brought all the tomato plants back inside last night because it looked like there might be a frost. Potatoes went in 2 weeks ago - so hopefully we will have our first crop of Timo for Midsummer. It is a very dry spring though - not much rain so far.

Hi Penelope
Your Rubarb sounds wonderfull. How are the tomatoes?I had to take my sweet peas under cover as well- there has been frost here in May.
Hopefully Finland gets some rain soon.
I am looking forward to some warmth here, except that the heat in London at summer gets too unbearable. At least in Finland you can always jump into the lake or sea......
-Enjoy!

Well I have only been here for three years but every time it gets unbearably hot (not often) the sea and the lakes turn greenish-blue and swimming is a no-no - some kind of bacteria /algae - the Baltic isn't the cleanest place to take a dip! BUt it never gets sticky and humid up here like in the Thames Valley of my youth - which is nice.
