Phd in computer science

Hi,
I am an Indian national and have been living in Finland for last 3 years. I have A-type residence permit valid until 2019, it was granted to work as specialist in IT industry.
I am planning to take up part-time Phd course in computer science with a Finnish university, I will continue with my current job during the course period. Do you have any idea on

- Is it OK to study on the residence permit issued for work?
- Do I have to connect with immigration authority to get any addition approval?

Yes as long as you also keep working. In practice the police probably wouldn't get information to cancel your permit even if you didn't.
