. Olavi Virta (extremely good voice, it beats Frank Sinatra by far, most of the songs are jewels)
. Kaseva (very melodic, sweet and sad)
. Rauli Badding Somerjoki (very good voice, great artistic talent, but quality of the songs is very random, from very crappy to very good) Please note that Rauli was sometimes twisting the rules of grammar for melodic and poetic purposes ; for example : "mä haluan sun", instead of "minä haluan sinua".
/Paul

Hi - My 1st post...
I started out with an interest Finnish folk music. Then I came to Finland for the music festivals... then I got interested in trying to learn the language.
The bands I like are; Kiharakolmio, Tallari, Värttinä, Rymäkkä, Snekka, Tuomas Logren, Burlakat (who sing in Karelian) and Gjallarhorn (whose songs can be in Finnish, Swedish or even Icelandic).
I can't say listening to the songs has helped me learn Finnish, though!!

What?! No one mentions Maija Vilkuuma?!
SMG is pretty good.
Eläkeläiset are fun if you're learning finnish because they do finnish "humppa" covers of pop songs (for example PSB's "Domino Dancing")

AJATTARA!!!
Insomnium is probably the best Finnish band about, but all their songs are in English

Same goes for HIM, the Rasmus, Lordi (but the latter 3 are crap)...
Make sure you get lyrics for Ajattara songs, though, because then you can tell what they're saying...

Leevi and the Leavings has the best lyrics I know. His diction is good too. (It always helps if you can make out what the **** the guy is saying.)
Other favorites are Sir Elwoodin Hiljaiset Värit, J. Karjalainen and Ismo Alanko. If you're a masochist, try Kari Peitsamo.
