I still don't speak any Finnish, even if I am not scared about the language and I will start in the next days to get on with some grammar and not only...but I wanna move asap!
Could I have possibilities in Oulu, in my field (5 years of experience, not newbie), without any Finnish at the moment?
ASP.NET Web Developer....any chances in Oulu?
There isn't a huge call for web developers in Oulu at the moment, but it can't hurt to try! What qualifications do you have? There are a lot of embedded software companies in Oulu and some of them will take on talented young nerds even if they don't have any obvious experience in the field. If you have the right attitude and don't come across as a chump you should be OK. I doubt ASP is hugely different from other computer languages - C and C++ are in demand here and if you know them you have an advantage. In fact, forget Finnish, you can learn that here; C is more important.
Having said that a lot of the smaller companies seem to be willing to take on any work, you never know, there may be an opening when you don't expect it.
You can get yourself a list of all the IT companies in Oulu from here: http://www.technopolis.fi, and if you are in Oulu then ask at the international office of the tyoministeri (it's in Torikatu) where they can give you more advice. Manpower in the Rotuuari seem to me to be the most foreigner friendly as well, you can sign up to them on http://www.manpower.fi, although it is all in Finnish so you will need to guess your way through to an extent.
Good luck!
