Average salary for experienced software developer?

Post by rio » Thu May 30, 2019 9:03 pm

What's the average a software developer with ~6 - 7 years of experience here in Finland?
I understand it might vary, but what would be a reasonable demand?
Thanks.

In Helsinki, about 5,000 is reasonable, so ask for 6,000. If you bring something true valuable to the table (something that isn't looking up jQuery questions on Stackoverflow for 7 years), then ask for 7,000.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Thanks for replying. It's a public organization and they say they have fixed salary scale, and for that position its between 4000-4500 (dont know exact). Any thoughts on that?

Eh, 5000-6000 is almost the top for senior developers from statistics. I don't know 7000 is possible for a non-leading dev

4500 seems reasonable to me for 6-7 years. Does it include the holiday pay? remote working an option? flexible hours? and how much is the actual work load?

My work load here is a like tiny fraction (both mentally and physically) of my previous job in asia. No point arguing for more. :)

That's a key piece of information you left out. It invalidates my previous comment, which was about modern private sector IT companies. I don't have much experience with public organisations, but 4500 seems very good.

Public organizations have their salaries set based on job grades, min and max, there is no so much room for negotiations but from what I see on the ads they publish the salaries seems to be smaller than in private sector.

5000+ for a Senior Developer. I assume 4500 for a none Senior.
