tekniikka/teknologia??

Post by RA » Mon May 02, 2005 1:55 pm

If tekniikka is technique and teknologia is technology, then why is:

Ympäristötekniikka = environmental technology
Savonia ammattikorkeakoulu, Tekniikka = Savonia Polytechnic, School of Technology
Teknillinen korkeakoulu= School of Technology

From this is it seems that tekniikka in Finnish is translated to technology in English, doesn't it?

If so, then what is the difference between ympäristötekniikka and ympäristöteknologia? And when do we use tekniikka / teknologia in Finnish?

Ympäristöteknologia = you theorize of building an outhouse; ympäristötekniikka= you actually build the outhouse.

basically you are correct technology = tekniikka and technique = tekniikka; you basically need to figure out which is which from the context.
Cheers, Hank W.
