Children's story books in Finnish?

Does anyone know where I can buy some story books I can read to my newborn baby? I'm only the very basic of Finnish speakers but I wouldn't mind him listening to me attempt to read a story to him in Finnish. :-)

I've heard of authors such as Mauri Kunnas and Jani Nieminen but can't find where to ...

Re: Esperanto to help learn?

Yes, from going back and reading my previous posts, it looks like I should have been up front from the start that even though I am not multilingual, I DO have some knowledge of other languages which I had attempted to learn. So I do apologize for that. After a couple years without keeping up on the ...

Re: Esperanto to help learn?

I was thinking monolingual = person who only speaks one language. Since I am not proficient enough to speak a second language, I wouldn't dare consider myself bilingual at all.

Re: Esperanto to help learn?

Thanks, I'll take a look at matrix juggling. As for your comment "for some reason you seem to not be receptive to the idea that Finnish really does pose a real challenge to learn", I honestly don't know where you've gotten that idea from. My reason for learning Esperanto is so it may help me in some ...

Re: Esperanto to help learn?

Yes, a page or two of posts ago I got the feeling that I should be discussing this on an esperanto forum which I have done. I've also discussed this on other more general linguistics forums too. Probably about 90% of the answers I have received have been to learn Esperanto first. This is why I am ...

Re: Esperanto to help learn?

Strange. When I click on your exact URL from your search, it comes up with the 4mil hit count as I told you about previously. If you'd like to continue with this Google discussion, perhaps it's better offline. Feel free to PM me. :-)

I've gotta go see about watching that film now.

Re: Esperanto to help learn?

Thanks for the link, filecore. It's an interesting article about proving how misspelled words are still misspelled words even though they come up in Google. I was just trying to get across that since Google turns up 66.5Mil results from the word Esperanto, that is a good indicator that Esperanto has ...

Re: Esperanto to help learn?

haha nice Shakespeare!

filecore, it's not that I "want to learn a made-up language", it's that I want to do well in learning Finnish and if Esperanto can give me a one-up, I'd like to go that route. But on the other hand, I don't want to waste my time with Esperanto if it really is all hype and won ...

Re: Esperanto to help learn?

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

Kalmisto, I'm sorry but I don't quite understand your argument of "If there was some truth in what you wrote about Esperanto and Finnish it would mean that native speakers of Spanish and Italian would find Finnish relatively easy to learn but they don´t.". From ...

Esperanto to help learn?

I've recently been looking more into the Esperanto language. It has been mentioned several times that if you spend roughly 6 months to learn Esperanto and then start learning another language (ie. Finnish), your Finnish language learning will be a lot easier. I've read that if someone takes 6 months ...

Re: Help me pick a Finnish name for my boat

Are you serious? LOL I didn't see that definition anywhere for any type of combination of those words. So, kesa means itch/scab but kesä means summer?

Re: Help me pick a Finnish name for my boat

Well it wasn't meant as a bad thing lol Maybe it just means the wind needs to blow the sails to get it going, hence, Blow Me. Okay, okay, maybe there's somewhat of a double-meaning. ;-)

Re: Help me pick a Finnish name for my boat

lol k, now Suvituuli is sounding better. ;-) There's something about the double-dots making Kesätuuli look more "exotic" though. Hmm... decisions. To bad my wife won't let me name it Blow Me. I mean, come on.. it's a sailboat, that's fitting. lol

Help me pick a Finnish name for my boat

I just got a 27' sailboat and am trying to think of a good Finnish name for it. Any suggestions guys? Some funny or interesting Finnish word. I was thinking something like Tuulen Rakastajatar (Wind Lover/Mistress) but that's too long probably. Don't want to call a Mayday with spitting that word out ...
