Advice on fitting studs to tyres

Post by Andy_UK » Wed Sep 07, 2005 9:41 am

Hey everybody, I was wondering if any of you kind people could advise me on my following question.

I am planning to make the move to Finland Dec 1st, and will make this trip using my own car. I will be going DFDS Newcastle-Gothenburg then the short drive to Stockholm to get the Stockholm-Turku boat.

My question is, as I will have Snow n' mud tyres already fitted, but no studs as us Brits don't need these...do any of you people know a good place in Gothenburg to get the studs fitted?

I know the S&M tyres may well do the job, but if the weather is crappy upon arrival I would feel a lot happier with the studs fitted. My car is a handful in the rain, nevermind snow, sleet and ice. No traction control or anti-lock brakes!! All good fun though.

Thanks
-Andy

You buy tyres with studs...you can't post-fit studs.

In practice S+M there's not much difference between the two tyre types (We have a car with each). The studdy ones are a little better on ice and the S+M better in deep snow.

I have had studs fitted to tyres on my rally car before, but that was by the Pirelli tyre truck in service. So I know it can be done...I guess not at the local garage then.

Otherwise, I have to roll off the ferry, drive to the nearest tyre place (sideways) and get a set fitted.

So, anyone know a name of a Swedish Kwik-Fit a-like in Gothenburg?

Thanks again.

Hey Hank thanks for the link.

I have got a second set of rims, but had these for ages, as the 'standard' rims are now like rocking horse sh$t... good job I kept hold of them.

Expat yes, filthy rich NO, and definatley not when your tax system gets a hold of my ass!!

The only reason I am bringing my own car is because the prices in Finland for cars is ridiculous!!!

Hey, world, we have here the best driving roads on earth, but guess what we are going to charge you a fortune for the priviledge!!
