Finally, i'll be moving to Helsinki from Dublin in just 5 weeks!
I've been reading the posts here for the past year and i've been trying my best with the finnish studies for a year and a half now. I want to make sure that I have my 'list of things to do before I go and after I arrive' correct! I'd be really grateful if anyone has anything to add that i've left out or any suggestions!
So far before I go, I've gotten my european health card, I've met with the EURES advisor in Dublin, i'll be sorting out my E301 and E401 shortly and getting my p45 from my current job. I have an apartment sorted out and I've saved enough money to get me by for the first 3 months (I hope!). Is there anything else I should have?
When I get to Helsinki, I need to go to the population registrar in Albertinkatu, (and then the police station in Malmi I think), and once I register into the population I have to register with KELA, the tax office and the MOL. I've to get myself on some finnish classes too!
Have I left anything out? I'd be really grateful for any advice!

12 months? Now THAT is optimistic. I never would have pegged you that way, DanDan wrote:What will you do for the other 9 months it takes to find a job?shakenvac wrote:I've saved enough money to get me by for the first 3 months (I hope!).

Yeah, getting work is going to be my biggest worry - that and the whole culture shock thing. Every time i've been over so far i've found it a bit hard to get used to the finnish directness!
I'm going to try and look for hotel work/english teaching work, but I know even that is going to be very tough to find. My experience is in financial services, which is useless without fluent finnish. Anyway, I'll see what I can find!
If anyone has any ideas i'd be very grateful!

That's probably not the smartest thing to leave on a blog for your employer to find. It works the other way too. Your employer can fire you during your probation period with basically no questions asked._jones wrote:In the meantime I will work for WifiCom for my probation period, during which I can quit the job at any time without any term of notice.
