England v Poland

Post by Venger » Wed Oct 12, 2005 3:19 pm

If anyone is interested, the above match will be shown live on YLE 24, starting around 9.30pm.

England v Austria was also shown on the same channel last Saturday. Very strange as there was no commentary and the only noise was that of the crowd. Quite amusing when they started singing something about the referee being a winker (or something like that).

What do you mean, no commentary? Sounded to me like H-P Hänninen was doing it on the rare occasions when I switched over. both games looked equally yawn-inducing. Better than Horlicks.

Mind you, H-P's commentary is as good as (or worse) than no commentary, but he was certainly there when I was watching. And also seemed to have no qualms about rooting for the English - crosses that were "unfortunately" cut out by the Austrian centre half, and so on.

Guess my Digibox automatically silences Finnish football commentators. Perhaps I could sell it on eBay and make a fortune.....!?

Very strange watching a game with no commentry. Really not much to talk about anyways. Well Young had a good game and my man Young looked good at right back. Havent seen Rooney play for a long time, but still looks like he could loose a stone or 2.

Poo old Republic, had a feeling that was going to be the result. Either that or they would have gone out in the play-offs. Too many dropped points. Not sure who will take over some people saying O Dreary, but I dont think hes good enough.

I much enjoyed the England game even without commentary (so nice to be able to watch the whole game from the sofa!). They played very well i thought and didn't miss Becks/Gerrard at all. Little Wright Phillips was great to watch and him and Rooney were always a threat when they got the ball. Leldey King and Young didn't look out of place either.

Its funny to see Crouch playing for England, I remember going to see Watford play at QPR a few years ago and remember the stick he got from the Watford fans a la 'Freeeeeak'. He was just as tall back then but even skinnier. I would never have guessed he'd go on to play for Liverpool or the national team.

Roll on Saksa '06!

I wonder why it's always H-P who gets assigned to exotic faraway places (such as Manchester) as it is obvious he knows f*** all about football? Well, to be fair, no-one at YLE knows anything about football (except maybe Riku), or ice hockey for that matter...

I think the worst football commentator is that bald guy with the earring(i think he is also the head of sport? his name escapes me). He really does know eff all and should not assign himself to football like he seems to do for all sports(athletics, rally, ice hockey etc).

That would be Tapio Suominen. He's not half as bad as Hoopo Hänninen, but, let's face it, not very good either.

"Tuleeko tästä ratkaisu???!!!???"
