Heh, I'd hardly be advertising tentacle monsters here. :) Last thing I need is to be known as the 'pervert of FF" :)

I actually didn't get to the manga show. But to be honest, those tend to be geared to the neophyte Westerner and I've been reading manga long enough not to need an overview of the genre.

And I've got a Hopeanuoli club membership certificate, signed by some bloke called "Kotkan Katse" 8)

Don't have many of the actual comics left anywhere though  The certificate comes from... hmm... 1976 or 1977 or so? Yikes.

I used to keep it in my resume files, alongside with the ylioppilastutkintotodistus, army papers and other such stuff. Managed to raise a few eyebrows

Then again, I'm quite sure I still have my Tarzan club "jungle passport" somewhere as well. It came with a keyring, canvas badge, t-shirt and (wait for it) a small dictionary of the Ape language.

(Panic edit: Gaaad, this is not "the" Hopeanuoli I remember at all! I don't even really remember the manga. The one I meant was a comic with Indians - not Indians from Calcutta but the kind that wore feathers on their head in the old west - it came out in Finland in the late 70's for a while. Sorry  but I won't delete the message...)

Oongowa!

Yeah, the Kiowa indian "Hopeanuoli" - I didn't know there was something else.

Apparently so  I used to read "Mustanaamio" (Fantom) as well. The best part in both comics though wasn't the "main feature" comic but the "inserts".

I suppose this is partly a question of age  The canine manga "Hopeanuoli" seems to have been created in early eighties at which time yours truly was already sort of graduated from the cartoon academy  (I still do read cartoons every now and then, but mostly for nostalgia reasons and usually only old fav's like Tintin etc...)

Some of the manga covers posted above by Xochiquetzal, incidentally, seem vaguely to suggest that, not being familiar with manga, I'm missing out a whole world of cartoonised excitement, sex and violence. Hmm. Maybe... but I get enough of those at home (except for the sex of course)

Just kidding

Edit: Hey yeah, that's the one! :) The legendary young Indian chief  I don't remember this particular issue though, but it surely brings back memories. Where did you find that pic? On the net?

Oh, I've subscribed to "Myrkky" since the late 1990's (would love to get early ones) - not so much quality all the time, but after pahkasika about the only underground comics mag. My favs are more Freak Bros and of course Fat Freddy's Cat...

Oh, they're selling all good old stuff in huuto.net like Tex Willers and Coyote... now then to find Karzan

Oh yeah, brillo, I can see the original pic address when e.g. quoting  Me techno wizard.

Hmm. On actually seeing an old Hopeanuoli mag cover, the memory maybe loses some of its sheen - the whole thing looks kinda crappy now to be honest  But back then it was pretty cool.

"the only authentic Indian magazine in the country":lol::lol:

My dad's got a whacking big collection of El Coyotes. Maybe not all of them, but nearly I guess. And no, he won't part with them :)

Karzan? Wasn't that a kind of a K18 version of the Lord of the Jungle?

My fav Freak Bros episode is the one in which one of the guys (can't remember the names, it's so looong ago) wanders about in Moscow and then the crowd notices his cool trousers. "Aijee, Amerikanskii farmari" (farmarit = jeans) There's a huge commotion while the jeans are ripped off from the poor guy... and all the while you can hear the sound effect of the noisy crowd: "Horror show, horror show"
