I hitched hiked.
I came a few times by plane and by car. But the last time I came by car since I had to move all my stuff from NL to Finland...

We did that once as a summer holiday, taking in Liverpool, London, Paris, Luxemburg, Brussels, Amsterdam, Köln, Berlin, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Göteborg, Stockholm & Turku on the way.

When I moved here, went by the much easier route of ferry from Newcastle to Gothenburg, drove across Sweden to Stockholm and second ferry to Hki. Dead easy.

Have also driven the long way across Sweden & Norway and sailed Stavanger-Newcastle.

Driving to Finland:
First time (1993) I came using Harwich-Esberg, and the old Travemunde- Helsinki route. Had a few weeks trying to drive around Espoo in December without winter tyres!

Then tried Turku- Stockholm and Gothenburg-Newcastle (my son somehow lost his shoes at a service station in Sweden).

Then tried Helsinki-Stockholm and drive to Esberg to catch ferry to Harwich. (means a long drive, and sleeping in car at ferry terminal).

Thought about route via Estonia...

but came to my senses and only fly now :D
With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.

I arrived here by plane and boat - boat from Perhentian to Koto Bahru, train to SIN, then flights to Bangkok, Frankfurt and here.

alas, it doesn't exist. or at least google tells so :D

i think it's good practice for a finnish-learner to check out estonian, it's at least fun and gives a freshness to continue [puhua? that means blow in estonian! and you don't even want to know what munn means:D]

um, i went to istanbul by car, took a plane to munich, then to helsinki.
but if i were to go again i would choose the istanbul-riga-tampere route which costs around 200e for a return ticket

I do it differently each time ;-) Usually by plane, but the route differs. From Berlin, Lübeck, Hanover or even Frankfurt/Hahn via London, Sweden, Praha, whatever - to Helsinki, Tampere or Jyväskylä. Once I used superfastferries, but that takes too much time and is as expensive as the flight.

Hmmm, you might change your mind after you get here about that point. I think you'll find Finnish IS actually fairly tough to get to grips with no matter how good you are at languages.
