Why do people go to to 'theme' pubs when they're abroad, in fact why do they go to them anyway? A 'Pickwick' pub apart from a couple of British beers doesn't feel like any British pub I've been in and anyway if I wanted to go to a British pub I'd have stayed in Britain. It's a bit like the Brits who go to Spain and drink in British bars and eat fish and chips, they might as well buy a bag of sand, sun lamp and stay at home. so why the 'I flew thousands of miles and met people from everywhere, Sydney, Perth, Canberra, Adelaide...'

Well, I can't really say anything about the pub in question, but once my husband and I move to Helsinki we'll definitely be paying it a visit. I don't think there's so many places in Helsinki where you can watch rugby...

Any bar that doesn't have a theme and are mostly peopled by Finns, probably why the majority of my friends are Finns. Not that I have anything against Aussies (RSH), just theme pubs.

I am trying to imagine what a Finnish theme pub in Australia would look like? :)

It was pretty exciting, although a bit disappointing as I was rooting for the Wallabies. My husband is Welsh... can't wait for the autumn internationals to begin!

LittleFrank: The Aussies who live here tend to go in the quiet of the day for a quick one after work, to talk Australian, to get the latest news, to have a friendly chat. It's not that its a theme bar that attracts us, as the bar is not themed like anything from Australia, but the people. Sure I didn't move here to meet other Australians but as I know a lot of Finns, sometimes it's nice to be round some people who are on the same wave length - sarcasm and sense of humour especially. I tend to go there when I feel down, and need company and go elsewhere when I feel up.

So in other words its full of miserable Ozzies crying in their Coopers? Sounds like my local - I only need to walk across the parking lot to see miserable Finns crying in their Koff

BTW speaking of down under, theres this apparently 13-year old gal from Sweden, "Amy Diamond" who's got this "Whats in it For Me" playing in the radio lists now 24/7 (she should quit smoking and drinking whisky, I thought it was Kylie Minogue at first). Now am I just imagining but has someone mixed some 80's "Men at Work " into the backgrounds or is that explainable with some working holidayers kidnapped to the studio? Or is it just a 1980's flashback...

Enjoy your walkabout and maybe when you get back we can yabber over a tinny in some hotel and talk about The Lucky Land. Until then, this bogan will drink with the flies while you're out there with the tall poppies.

Little Frank, see you when I get back. Sorry I didn't catch you but the last few days have been crazy. And bye to anyone else I didn't get time to see personally.

it's in an area of helsinki called Kaisaniemi, right above a popular restaurant called EATZ. I go there once in awhile with my girlfriends to stare at the hot new bartender guy with the ponytail ;). We tried to go tonight, but there was some private function going on there. I like the place. Nice atmosphere and always plenty of native english speakers there.

Last time I was there they were filming a breakdance video santaclaus vs. easter bunny...

Yeah, small dinky place full of sorry gits (albeit more skirt), across the road is Molly that has Guinness and live music every night, and then one can go to Eatz downsatiairs to On The Rocks for some decent music instead of the discopop
