Hi. I'm new here and I'm not sure if this is the right place to post or whether any of you are interested in politics anyway.
I've been reading a bit about political parties (particularly leftwing ones) and their collateral organisations. I know the SKDL was quite a big organisation and that it had a lot of different units linked to it (the Finnish Women’s Democratic League, the Academic Socialist Society, a students' organisation etc.). I was wondering if it also had cultural or sporting organisations as well and when they joined. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
S
SKDL and sport
Re: SKDL and sport
I can't remember the name offhand, but there probably was one... but you could do worse than taking a look at TUL (Työväen Urheiluliitto), though that is mainly an SDP/SAK operation. You might dig up some leads from there. Anything SKDL ran would have been seen as a rival outfit.Sint wrote:Hi. Thanks. An SKDL affiliated version of TUL is exactly what I'm looking for. I'd email them, but unfortunately the TUL website doesn't appear to be working.otyikondo wrote: I can't remember the name offhand, but there probably was one... but you could do worse than taking a look at TUL (Työväen Urheiluliitto), though that is mainly an SDP/SAK operation. I take it that what Hank W. wrote is a nickname for the SKDL.

I think it was always SVUL and TUL, but I think sporting was made in some part and form in Suomen demokraattinen nuorisoliitto (SDNL) or Suomen demokratian pioneerien liitto (SDPL). TUL was left-leaning though as it split in the 1950's => 1970's with a naff with who could play where and represent what. Which then, unlike with the communist party that went bankrupt TUL ended up winning the race as SVUL went bankrupt and the representing unions became independent.
