Why Finland!?

Im finnish girl and i've been living in finland all my life. Im wondering why do so many people want to move here..!???

I wanna say that if u have been here only
few weeks in summer, don't make decision to move here only of that. U should experience the winter and darkness with it. It can be very hard for foreigners because it's hard for us too! Many finnish people suffer of depression during the winter, it's so cold and dark for many months.

So if u are planning to move here, be aware of that! For me, and for some other people that i know, it's so big problem that we are leaving Finland in a while.

Im not saying that Finland is not a good place to live, just remember the long winter!

Some of my reasons in no specific order: Honesty, modesty, tranquillity, technology, reliable people, individual development level, beautiful girls, rock/metal scene, demo scene, computer geeks, peaceful and balanced society (thanks to the progressive taxation ), welfare state, drinking culture (Oo yeah!), interesting history (raising the Finnish identity in the middle of two giants, Sweden and Russia), decent education system, landscape, sauna (with rolling on the snow or going into a frozen lake), karaoke (just kidding ), relatively religion-free society, competence in English.

Should I write more?

These are not the reasons I had before coming to Finland for sure because I didn't even know the differences between Sweden and Finland at that time but still most of the these reasons apply to Sweden as well.

Winters no big deal if your from anywhere esle in North west europe - sure its cold but it's fairly dry so you can dress up warm plus the snow makes everything white and bright - try glasgow then its 2oC with sleet and gale force winds and very very grey - give me -20oC any day

I had never seen snow fall in my hometown, so I moved here to enjoy the snow fall.

Snow makes everything white and bright....haha, only sometimes. In south of finland it hardly ever snows before christmas! And before that it's raining or sleeting and it is very VERY grey. Winters are rarely white and dry, and when they are, then it's COLD! - 20 or -30...

I'm from southern NM and sure the first winter was hard, but then I learned to dress properly.

It's not that bad. For me I'm probably here for the next 15- 20 years so I make the best that I can. As for the dark, that's what xmas lights up now are for. I quite enjoy the snow which is more then you see in a lifetime from where I'm from. Well excepting the 2 years I was in Germany but even then the snow didn't compare to here.

I guess it's all the way you look at it. I just make sure to have trips home during the summer so I can soak up 105 f temps.

p.s I'm here like a lot of people on this forum because I'm married to a Finn.

I would call it realism.

When one doesen't know the place and has only seen a few pictures people develop a mental picture about any place. Has any place anyone of you visited been antyhing like that what you imagined? So the place is entirely different what people imagined , combined with stereotypical difficulties when moving to a new place it can create a nasty disappointment. I think almost everyone knows it the nice experience of visiting might not be comparable to dull every day living. Everythings always new and exciting for tourists what is familiar and boring for locals. So a few nice days in Finland in summer will not be the same as everyday weekday living. Yes the weather sucks in south Finland at the moment and somedays are more funt , stll doesen't make this place a dump nor paradise on eath. Just a real place on earth not in heaven or hell

Neither of those! What i wrote about winter was only a friendly "warning", just to remind that it's not very easy specially people from south europe and so... But otherwise all foreigners are more than welcome here!!!

We've got South Europeans here in Lappeenranta complaining about the lack of snow.

A lot of people in the south are used to freezing their ass off too. They often don't have double or triple windows and proper heating, so during a cold night it's not always pleasant. In Finland it can be pretty cold outside but indoors it's almost always nice and warm.

I've been wondering about that. What's your secret? How can someone from Tex-Ass survive here? How do you keep your body temperature at 50C?
