Cross Country Skiing

Post by shakenvac » Sat Nov 26, 2005 5:33 pm

I've never tried cross country skiing before but i'd really like to give it a go now that the snow is here and it looks worth a try!

Does anyone know where in Helsinki a beginner can get started? i'm not sure where to begin! is there any websites you can recommend or groups or anything like that?

You go to Pirkkola, IIRC they rent gear, and then find the "easy" 1,5 km track.

Oittaa in Espoo also has a course specifically for foreigners, but I think
it's in March.

You can hire skis and get advice when it come to what to buy...
The beginers tracks are also patrolled by lots of "helpers"...

You need to "seize the moment" here in the south  "I'll go tomorrow" is usually water-skiing.

If anyone happens to go south on holiday, Dubai might be worth considering, too!
