Help! Don't want to loose my English skills.
Help! Don't want to loose my English skills.
Hi everybody! I'm looking for someone who could help me keeping up my English skills. I've moved back to Finland from UK few days ago and would like to find English speaking friends (I'm a Finn myself). If anyone would like to go for a coffe / tea / pint in Helsinki, send me a PM or e-mail.
-Stay alive-
You beat me to it, AndrewS.
I always think that it's only right to point these things out, just as I would expect any Finns or Finnish-speaking persons to point this out to me, should I be doing the same in Finnish.
As have been bollocked on here on a couple of occasions for correcting grammar, I thought I'd let this one ride...You're a brave man.

Helvete också, nu regnar det igen!

Why stop there? I found some more:Andrew_S wrote:First lesson:
It's spelt "lose".
"help me keeping up" = "help me keep up/help me to keep up"
"from UK" = "from the UK"
"few days ago" = "a few days ago" (unless you mean too few)
"english speaking" = "English-speaking"
"coffe" = "coffee"
Normally I'm not a grammar nazi but this case is of course different. Welcome to the forums, Krissy! I hope you'll find some charming British chap to teach you to speak English like the 13th Duke of Wybourne. Me, I'm just a Finn, so I don't speak English, I only write it.

Yes I noticed someone was having a little dig yesterday about the lowlife on the board (me included) who dare to (occasionally) point out the odd error....

Krissy, there are a few ex-pat clubs for English speakers in Helsinki... and I know some are open to all.... the BWA - British Women's Association - (they have a website) has plenty of Finnish members and they also have an English conversation club and organise lots of events and outings (I recently did a brewery trip with them). If they have room (not sure) I'm sure you could join.

And you could pop up for the Pub Quiz on Wednesday.
(Pub Quiz 1st Wednesday of the month at 19, Pub Angleterre, Fredrikinkatu 47). Next few times are safe as I'll be with the M*A*S*H and probably in a pub in B'ham in January. After that one may need to watch out
