Kentucky Fried Chicken

Post by shazman » Mon Sep 29, 2003 11:27 am

I have been trying to resist the urge to write about this - but I find its too big a question to leave unanswered.

Why is there no KFC 'restaurants' in Finland? or have I missed something and just been blind to them? or maybe I cant smell that wholesome food from a mile away? (like I used to be able to).

Well I need answers, and some greasy, deep fat-fried breasts (if Im honest!).

Maybe someone with experience of the restaurant business could open up the first in Helsinki.... or near my flat

Probably the same reason there's no Taco Bell... however wish I knew the reason!

If you're seriously jonesing about getting some deep fried goodness, there's a "Southern Fried Chicken and Kebab House" in the food court at Forum (bottom floor). It's not like the Colonel, but it's as close as you'll probably get :)

Because we don't want UFO saucers to come land. You know they only come for KFC don't ya? :D

...there was a Burger King sometime in the 1970-80's but it disappeared about as fast as it came.

Well, theres your business idea. The Kamppi mall is looking for people willing to pay their exorbitant rents, and theres always some id... enterpreneur willing to try - you can hit the Taco Bell at the same time... http://www.yum.com/franchising/info.htm

The cost of doing business is what is keeping those franchises out of here.
Chicken retail here costs almost as much as steak in the US. Taco Bell would cost as much as McDonald's or Hessburger here. The lure to Taco Bell is the cost. For $10.00us you can feed an army! :D

I think Finland is better off without KFC or Taco Bell. (See other thread on obesity) :D

They have a couple of Subway locations in Helsinki though, which isn't too bad.

In the food courts in the shopping malls they need some chains like "Made in Japan" or some kind of Chinese food. It is pretty boring that there is the S-Chain monopoly of Pasta Express, Chicos, Hesburger etc. in almost all of the bigger malls. (Not Myyrmänni though.)

Don't even get me started on RAX.

Thank you Katrina for the support... Fat can be your friend, kinda :?

So any takers for opening up the first KFC? You can always start up importing cheap chicken from Estonia or just go out in the countryside and catch some of that 'wild' mink thats running around.... I hear thats legal

I had 1 experience with KFC in Florida, which cured me instantly from ever going to KFC again:

The posters above the counter, which are supposed to show what menus and products they have, and which are to seduce you in taking a certain product because it looks so irresistable and yummie, were completely faded out by (sun)light. There were lightblue chickenbreast, deepred salads (where the lettuce part of the salad was red, not the tomatoes) and so on and so on... Somuch for irresistable and yummie.

Theres a word for that, cowardice!

If you fall off your bike - then you gotta jump right back on. I have been scared and disgusted by the goings on of many a KFC... but yet I continue.
Foolhardy maybe, but I continue.

I've been doing that for over 20 years. I've biked with a bruised spine, a crushed kneecap, a snapped kneetie, a broken thumb and I can go on like that for a bit still, so don't start on cowardice!

But with that I know what's happened with me and how it felt like.

When it comes to food, though, it's different. How would my body react to blue chicken breasts and deep dark red salads? I might be poisoned!

Well obviously your body would get stronger and more resilient (if you survived of course)
