Rugby League Fans in Finland?

Just interested in finding out whether or not I'm the only one! For the record, I'm from Yorkshire and follow Doncaster and York City Knights.

Ps: I'm also one of the other cricket fans in Oulu

Not me. Played Union at school (our school didn't do football) hated the game, give me Association football any day.

Rugby is still a game for men with funny shaped balls.

I'm from Warrington but support Widnes. I know of a few more leaguies about especially in Helsinki.

Sadly I no longer play the game, apart from the odd game of touch-rugby. Played at school and uni level a few years back, tho. Don't think I've got the physique for the game, I just prefer to spectate!

Any news of any league played in Finland? I am an Aussie with Finnish roots living in Finland. Or then some touch footy??

No RL here (sadly), although it is played in Estonia and Russia. A Finnish Rugby Union competition started a couple of years back, which now has about 8 teams that play through the summer. I'm sure the touch-rugby that is used during training sessions will resemble league to some extent (no rucking/mauling, etc), so that might be your best bet. I don't know if you could get a few like-minded souls together in somewhere like Helsinki for a touch footy session, but probably not elsewhere. I just play when I'm back in the UK on holiday.

You could try http://www.rugbyfinland.com, if you're willing to play RU and want to find your nearest club.

My hometown club is Doncaster Lakers, but I also take an interest in York's progress. As for Superleague clubs, probably Leeds! South Sydney Rabbitohs and North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL in Australia.

I will watch just about any game of RL, regardless of the clubs involved. Just wish I could watch it here...

There was no rugby league in Scandinavia until a few years ago, now there is some domestic set up in Sweden, Denmark and Norway.

If people in Helsinki would fancy an organising a 9's team, I am sure a rugby league team could be tempted to pop over.

I am involved with rugby league in norway, and scandinavian rugby league wonders if there are people keen to put up a finland rep side for rugby league? maybe kickstart rugby league? I'm sure it will suit the ishockey nation very well
