which is the more intense rivalry to the Finns?
Here in Canada, hockey commentators often refer to the bitter rivalry between the Finns and the Swedes. They don't seem to talk about it when the Finns play the Russians, which surprises me. I would have thought the emotions would be as strong. In any case, the desire to win each game certainly seems to be there. I don't think anyone was expecting this strong of a showing from the Finns prior to the Olympics. Exciting stuff.

Well. UNF!
look at the Swedish team:
Mika Hannula (vlh)
look at teh Finnish team:
Niklas Bäckström (mv)
Aki Berg (vp)
Toni Lydman (op
Niklas Hagman (vlh)
Russia is the "old enemy" that is normal - with Sweden Its a "family feud"
... it'd be even worse if Tony Salo was in Sweden goal and Sami Salo was playing...
We used to have a "Ruotsalainen" playing as well... that means "Swede"... imagine the goddamn confusion in radio!

The age of wonders is not over. How the hell they came through that 5-on-3 unbroken is still beyond me. Luck and pluck. Plenty of the latter. I reckon they must have thought they could walk on water after that. And conversely, the Russians must have wished they hadn't turned up.
Now Kalle can spring a surprise for us and nab a gold medal just to keep the appeite satisfied through Saturday...
Pretty bloody amazing that Poutiainen saved her only good run of the year for today, too, wasn't it?
And let's not rag on the curlers. They did sodding well, and when =)(/& happens, it has a nasty habit of being a bowl-breaker. Such is life. SIX points... oh-hoh...

Great day for the Finns! Terrific victory for the hockey team!!
And stupid-@ss TV coverage here in the midsection of America. The SWE-CZE game was on 3 different cable channels a total of 5 times, including replays after the game was over.
FINLAND vs. RUSSIA? Good luck; was on once, on a special HD channel not available here, so I saw nothing.
However it is certain that I'll see the gold medal match at 7am on Sunday morning on regular NBC channels.
