By the way another way to check which Airlines are have sales is to pick your destination as the departure point, then click on the city you live in and shazam you get a list of all the airlines, starting with the cheapest first.

I also forgot I bought from airlineconsolidator.com they also listed all the latest deals

I've had luck with this website: http://www.qixo.com/flight.html

You can fly direct from LAX to NYC then direct from NYC to HEK but the fare is just over $1,400 (that's on American) I don't have java or flash on my office pc or I'd have done a quick search for you on Qixo. It's a good place to start and as the others have said, you will need to spend a little time doing some research. There are pro's and con's to using a travel agent and as Hank said, if you miss the flight you're stuck.

Final cost really depends on how many layovers you'll stand for. As an aside, the Paris airport has THE worst bathrooms I've ever been in in my life (and that includes a hole in the floor in the formerly communist Croatia)
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry & has been widely regarded as a bad move.

About Laajasalo - it's very nice. I lived there about four months after my move to Finland.

About flights - keep checking the Finnair site. I don't know what exactly they are planning, but just a couple of days ago they had a PR meeting with investors. Their future business plans include really pushing the fact that Helsinki is the closest major European airport to the West Coast (I didn't know that - but they were talking about flights over the Pole). It appears in the not-too-distant future they are going to be heavily promoting flights from Helsinki to the West Coast. Just keep an eye open - maybe there will be some good sales on direct flights!
