Post by lucho81 » Thu Jun 01, 2006 7:07 pm

Hi.

Does anybody knows any mountain biking club or any website where I can find maybe maps of the routes in helsinki or around ?
I don't know too much info about the subject in Helsinki.

Thanks a lot

http://www.mtbcf.net

Although I've emiled them twice in the last month asking to join and have gotten no response. Hopefully you have better luck.

Has anyone else had trouble joining?

you probably emailed them in english, or mentioned you are a foreigner. If so then don't hold your breath waiting for an answer! Been there done that.

If you REALLY want to get in then just show up and confront them face to face, it's the only way to break through the barrier.

Just out of curiosity, I had my S.O. email the mtb club in finnish and she got a response the next day. Apparently, them telling how to join in english was not an invitation for english speakers to join.

I did go to the local bike shop and talked to the guys about trails and the mtb club. They said trails are really hard to find without a guide but they are around. They also said there are english speakers in the club and I should just show up at a ride.

I'd be glad to ride with you, but I broke my hand this week so I'm out of any real mountain biking for at least 3 weeks.

..and just slightly aside...

..any suggestions as to the best way to pick up a second-hand MTB bike (stiff-tail, V-brakes, LX equiv comp set...that kinda spec!)..let me know..

..I've tried a few bike shops, but they're a bit short of half decent off-road bikes (plenty of hybrids). Don't need disc brakes or maybe even no shocks..just something that does the trick..

..I've had the 'yellow pages' suggested, but just thought I'ld ask if there's somewhere I'm not looking yet, (like Brick Lane market is to MTBikers in London)..
