Thinking Of Moving to Finland

Post by Muddy Zuk » Tue Jun 27, 2006 6:15 pm

OK OK I'm sure you have all heard it before many times, but i have just returned from a trip to Russia and i went through Finland. I spent a few days their and have fallen in love with it.
I have made some friends unsursprisingly as they were all so friendly and helpfull.

For me and for the first time inmy life i have nothing keeping me here in Edinburgh, after a run of some of the owrst luck i have ever seen i am now in a remarkably positive situation. No flat to be tied to, No woman to haver to and No Job to stop me. so i would like to take this opportunity to spend some time somewhere else as my whole life albeit a mere 28years has been spent here in Edinburgh.

I want to come over to Finland prefferably around Helsinki as this is where my friends are and spend maybe 3months or so working and living.
I am prepered to take any job going basically just so i can come and experience the place. Yes it may be low paid and yes it may be pricey to live but i dont want to miss this chance!!

If anyone can give me any points and tips on this case then i would really appreciate the help. My frineds there have offereed to help try and find some form of work all they can but i dont want to rely on them, after all they have their own lives to lead!

Thanks in advance for any help given!! :D

As an EU citizen you can come here for 3 months without any limitations. Welcome.

If you are unemployed and receive unemployment aid (money) in Scotland, you should be able to "transfer" that also to Finland. Ask the organisation who pays it how it works.

You can transfer the dole, but you need to have all the impossible paperwork, your EU health card etc. - its all in the internet at the appropriate Scottish agency website.

Don't "think" - get all the papers including one from your dentist about your gingivitis just in case anyone asks for it. Getting some stupid piece of paper as in a baptismal certificate after the fact is going to be arse-backwards-up-tree. Not that anyone would ask for any paper - except the one that you don't have. Or leave the papers at your ma's or someplace so that you can get them in the mail, but you don't have to be in some office on a blue moon to get them personally.

What else - yeah, after Russia Finland must seem grand. Don't expect to find a job in the three months. Thats a minimum time for looking... depends how desirable you are and how bad your Finnish is ;) Now that desirability doesn't have to do with the amount of women wanting to check under the kilt - its a niche market.

So, what do you do as for like job/qualifications/can do?
Cheers, Hank W.

Up until very recently i was a Funeral Director, now that is a Niche Market!and had been in that trade for 3years prior to that one i used to be a store manager for Blockbuster video and had been in retail for 7 years in various guises but last 5 as a manager of some sort.

Work wise i am hoping to find something even dull and uninteresting i know my prospects are minimal and my appeal to an employer is lower than a nats scrotum! but someone there must want me to do something!!

Keetos for all the help Hank
