Moi,
I have a question for anyone who may have gone through this recently or knows maybe a little about it. I have been working so much lately, odd hours also that I dont get to KELA at all when they are open nor do I get to a computer enough right now to thouroughly investigate.
What I need to know is what do I need to do to become resgistered with KELA? Is there anything or anywhere else I shpuld check into? My working contract comes up soon, like maybe september or so and I am thinking about taking some more language classes, this time something maybe recognised by the working office or whatever. I have heard that the government will help pay for such things but not sure if it is just rumor or what. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is this something through the employment office or what?
After 4 years of a B permit I have never had to deal with this kind of thing here and have been basically been winging it. It would be nice to have a little direction since most of my friends have no idea since they are Finnish and just assume that I have same privilage as they do.
Thank you very much,
Jesse

OK, so you are on an "old" B-permit? So you are why in Finland doing what and where are you originally from and how long .... need background.... otherwise...

There is a form on KELA pages and you just fill it in and mail. But it is sort of depending how your residence is... But if you've been working you should be covered.

sorry, the long days have made for mental lapses.
I am American, cant claim any ties to family in Finland. Have had Bstatus for the last 4 years due to having just seasonal work, basically the employer stating they olny intended to use me for certain period of time. Bstatus was granted all year round. Now employer requested and open permit on their forms and I asked for A status and was granted. My work will end in september perhaps. I have some part time things maybe lined up but know that I could do much better with better language skills. I work in a mostly Swedish speaking area however working in kitchen (I am a Chef, or as now my contract says vuoromestari, so that might help get better job)the working language is Finnish. Which means thats where my language skills kind of end. The kitchen area.
I had heard that the govt will assist with expenses if a person takes approved language classes, which would certainly help me as living in an area that has classes and working is hard to do financially since the work is at most part time.
Basically after paying taxes for the last 4 years I am just wondering what is available to A status persons if needed. Of course I will do as much as I can on my own but it never hurts to know whats out there.
Kiitos paljon,
jesse

OK, so basically you are "on A permit" now. Does it say "pysyvä" on it or does it have an end date?
