They can pay in pounds into a Finnish account - or if it is easier for them in crowns.
There is no use having a sterling account in Finland really unless you are a business doing deals in currency. The bank will rip you off double than the UK tax office, and that money you don't get returned.

The Norwegians may be thick, but yes, they can pay into the Finnish account. Now as it is in foreign currency depending on your bank and the rates and so forth the exchange rate+fees are something you need to ask, but you'll ge it in euros. Oh, and no checques nor aything like that. Direct wire transfer.
As a principle you'll always get screwed dealing with a bank
And it would be no use having a sterling account as it is still going to be in euros, so if you will put £10 into the account it'll be 16 euros and when you take a withdrawal then you will get the £8 you can buy with the 16 euros that day...+ hefty fees.

Why would the UK tax you ? If you are tax resident in Finland then having a uk bank account does not make you liable for UK income tax. Also you can fill out a form to give to the bank to tell them you're not a UK tax payer and they won't deduct the tax on the bank account interest (since they do it as default on the assumption that most uk account holders are uk tax payers).don't want my salary going to the UK or l'll get taxed there too

Best bet is to just get your employer to pay you into a Finnish account.
No point screwing around converting cash and worrying about double taxation (as you will only have to fill in self-assesment forms etc..to prove you are not resident in the UK)
The company presumebly delas with other EU member countries and buys things from them, so they may even have a fixed exchange rate for the year (speak to the accounts department), if so they could pay you in euros without too much problem.
FYI, I work for a UK company, but because we have offices around the world, they pay me in euro's!
