Kuvallinen Oleskelulupa / Residence permits with pictures

Post by network_engineer » Thu Aug 17, 2006 2:55 pm

Hi all,

This thread applies to residence permit stickers issued to Finnish residents from non-EU countries, who permits are issued in the form of stickers in their passports.

If I remember correctly, there was a publication, either from the Interior Ministry or the UVI (I forget which one) about starting to issue residence permits with pictures of the permit holder on them.

Any idea if they have already started issuing them? At least in Hyvinkää and Vantaa, they have not (I called to check). As far as I remember, they were supposed to start issuing permits in August.

Thanks.

What kind of permits they issue does not really depend on the place you applied them at... Or do you think they have a passport printshop around every corner?

From UVI's website:
Introducing the residence permit sticker with photo

Finland will start issuing residence permit stickers with photo. The photo applied to the sticker must be of high quality. The new procedure will be introduced gradually. All residence permits issued following an application lodged after 30 November 2006 will have a photo.

Anyone applying for a residence permit, or their representative, must provide a photo for the photo sticker conforming to the Passport photo guidelines issued by the police in June 2005. A photo must be submitted with the application as of 1 October 2006.

Introducing the photo sticker will increase general security, as it will be easier to ascertain the identity of the permit holder. It will also be more difficult to forge a residence permit with photo. Photo stickers have already been introduced on visas.
More details here.

Well, a recent student permit I saw still had no photo, just a text "valid without photograph".
Cheers, Hank W.

Hi all,

amozgov: Thanks for the update. If I may ask - was it possible to get it in Swedish? Or did they insist on using Finnish in the permit?

Thanks.

If you're marked down "in the computer" as "swedish speaking", or check Swedish as your "official communication language", probably you might...

But if you get that done, then you might chance you will get *all* official communication from KELA to VERO to banks well be lite bättre
