Hello everybody,
Do you guys know what will be the rules and restrictions for the romanian citizen to permanenly move and work in Finland after Jan 2007 (if Romania join the EU).
I am romanian and canadian citizen curently temporary resident and working in Germany for the last 3 years.
What about working in Finland as a cook (specialty as italien cook) as I work right now in Germany. Also very strange I graduate computer science and have 3 years experience (but not working in the last 3 years in this profesion).
Can any body please give me an idea of how much a salary is in Finland let say average labour job about 40hrs\week. And how much would a normal flat 3 rooms cost for rent let say 60sqm outside a city (I mean not downtown)
Thanks a lot guys I know I ask a lot any help is realy appreciated.
George

Well, of 2007 the crystal ball has not come any clearer. Finland did put restrictions for the "new" countries back when Estonia, Poland etc. joined, but they lifted it, so I'd say its doubtable that they'd impose it on Romanians and Bulgarians.
Of salaries, maybe they are at par with Germany, but the taxes are higher and the prices as well, so purchase power is lower in some cases.
Rent... hmmm... I'd say around 700,- in Greater Helsinki Area. Of course less in smaller cities.

For a job as cook I have bad news for you. It will be extremely difficult. Since the TV cooks became popular, there has been a large number of cooks graduated from the vocational institutions. Many haven't found a job in their proffession.
And if you don't speak finnish it will be near impossible.
I would say, if you have a job, keep it.

I know it is not easy to find a job as a cook I also dont have any educations or school as a cook (I graduate computer science and have 3 years experience).
But I work for the last 4 years as a cook (italien) in Germany I am looking for a job in a italian restaurant. Trust me no one even with 3-4 years of cook school will be able to work and get a job in a real traditional italian restaurant and do a well job.
I have been working in a italian restaurant as a cook for the last 4 years it is not easy trust me and I think I can handle any job and stress in a ITALIAN restaurant. I also live and work in Italy also long time a go.
Are there many italian restaurants in Finland ??? in the Helsinki area???
Working in a italian restaurant it require more than just a school I also can speak read and write italian (is important for most of them to be able to really undestand their traditional food and culture)
Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks George

Maybe you can found one.georgent7 wrote:Are there many italian restaurants in Finland ??? in the Helsinki area???

The fast food places (pizza, kebap etc) are everywhere and they are popular too. It's just that they're open nearly all the time, which means hard times for the workers.
Well, that has not much use in Finland.I also can speak read and write italian
What I've heard is that employers in Finland basically require that you have the proper education for the job.
You might have more success in the IT field where Finnish skills are not necessarily needed.
I second ojanm's opinion.ojanm wrote: You might have more success in the IT field where Finnish skills are not necessarily needed.
IT field gives definitely more opportunity to a foreigner (I'm one of them and BTW I have several Romanian colleagues at my workplace) and probably a better salary than you may get at restaurant, unless if you are the owner of the place or the head chef.
Additionally, working at a restaurant requires that you know what your Finnish customers expect from you, and how to deal with them, i.e. requires a certain grasp of the Finnish culture. That one is a requirement not so urgent to develop if you are in the computer world.
Best wishes
