Hockey

Post by Jul » Fri Sep 15, 2006 10:07 am

Hi everybody!

I am a french student, trainee in Helsinki and i would like to see some IceHockey matches.
But i don't really know this sport. Which team in Helsinki i should go to watch, and where?
Last but not least: i am here since one month but i am working, not a lot of time to meet friends. So people who would like to go with me are welcome!!
Thanks,

Julien

Sorry to inform you, but if you want to see real Ice Hockey you should come to Tampere. Teams in Helsinki are just fight they don't know how to play real Ice Hockey.

If you still want to see some action go to see http://www.jokerit.com/.

Ok!

I think i will go to visit Tampere soon so i will try in the same time to see icehockey there! In waiting i will go to see Jokerit. Then maybe a match vs tampere?! :-)
But maybe also do you speak as a fan of Tampere? Are Helsinki teams so bad? Which are the great team in Finland?

The top pro teams in Finland play in the Finnish Champion league or SM. Jokerit and Tampere Tapparat and Tampere Ilves play in this league. And then there are semi-pro hockey divisions below them, "Mestis" and "Suomi-Sarja". All offer top quality hockey.
However I recomend you go to a local ice arena and watch junior hockey with games for all ages of kids and all different skill levels. A B and C junior hockey is my favourite. Its also free.

Well, Jokerit kicked the !"#¤% out of HIFK last night, so I have an excuse of having a horrid hangover as Jokerit has sucked golfballs through the vacoom hose the last few seasons.

To watch hockey you go to the 'Jäähalli' the old one, or then the new hartwall Areena in Pasila. Theres also Espoo Blues playing, they have the ice hall off Tapiola towards Mankkaa. Areena and Ice hall are both in civilization= easily accessable by public transport.
Cheers, Hank W.

The Koff beer factory in Kerava has a store that sells Koff merchandise cheap including Koff sponsored hockey teams like HIFK etc. Sweaters, jackets etc. Its only open a few hours a week so you have to phone to inquire when. But when you consider the gas used for the trip, I don't know.

I think each team sells stuff on their team website, but I don't know how the prices compare to retail outlets/ storefronts.
