Shipping a Desktop PC
Shipping a Desktop PC
This post actually contains a few questions, since I'm pretty sure I know the answer to the first one:
1.) I have a Dell Desktop PC. Should I ship it to Helsinki from Texas? The answer is no, right?
2.) Should I purchase a laptop in Finland, where I can get all of the right electrical adapters automatically, or would it be better just to buy a laptop here in the states?
Incidental quetion: What are the popular laptop styles and brands in Finland?
Any other input anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated, even if it only loosely relates to my questions.

I shipped my Shuttle box to Finland when I moved. All I did was change the adapter cord to accomodate the Finnish wall sockets. Of course, the power supply in my pc was geared to handle the voltage difference. I would check and see if the power supply can handle 220.
Laptop brands in Finland pretty much the same as those in the states.

1. for six months... yeah...
2. in the states you'd probably get a better deal. the thing is the power adapter must be dual voltage - if it isn't then you must get the 220v adapter. if it is dual then the only thing you then need is a cord, which is easy to get unless one comes with.
+ you can get all your software etc. with your student licences
The thing is if you buy a sweet deal here, the computer may speak Finnish and Swedish but not English.

My suggestion would be to buy a dell laptop from the states, but when you order, ask for them to ship a 220v euro adapter instead of the normal US adapter - It can be done, I used to work at dell
You could also ask for the US adapter and a Euro one, it would probably cost about 20 - 50 dollars more. PM me if you need more info.

But what shall it profit a people if they satisfy all material desires, but leave for their children nothing, only a wasteland.
