I dont know myself as we havent a child yet, but my mother used to wrap the baby firmly in a blanket, this made the baby feel secure and sleep. How ever, Im not really qualified to comment too much on this. (being 24 and male)
But what shall it profit a people if they satisfy all material desires, but leave for their children nothing, only a wasteland.

Hiya

I could have written the same post 18 months ago!

Sophie slept well at night but the daytime was just awake time for her...at least you get 15 minutes!
Things got better once she got mobile- I was lucky that she commando crawled at 4 months and properly crawled at 6 months. When she hit 6 months the sleeping got better in the daytime. Once she walked (thankfully 8 months) the sleeping improved again.

Here are some things I tried (and a few I know others have tried)...
Made sure she had had a huge feed and then tried to put her to sleep. If she was hungry she wouldn't sleep.
We resorted to a dummy which helped a bit, she could suck it and gradually nod off. Only problem is that now at 19 months old she still needs it to fall asleep with. We only ever used it for sleep and nap times.
Put her outside to sleep, the cold air can often knock them out.
Take her for an hours walk, most sleep when they are being walked (Sophie didn't). It'll do you good too to get out of the house. The cold and the buggy motion might help.
Swaddle her and see if that works.
Just leave her to cry it out- harsh but known to work...never tried it myself but if desperate.
Try her in her cot with a really darkened room so she thinks it is night time.
Play relaxing music every time it is nap time, she will associate the same music with sleep.
Rock her to sleep- rod for your own back (IMO) in the long term but short term worthwhile.
Co-sleep, curl up in bed together and sleep.

She is probably overtired which makes sleep harder to get, once you crack it a little then the sleep should come easier.

Ok, I have prattled on- can you tell I am a Board Host (CL) on ivillage pregnancy and baby forums! LOL Highly recommend you go and lurk/post on Oct 06 birth club.

Good luck,
Love Hannah and Sophie (now rarely sleeping in the day and not sleeing properly at night- how does a 19 month old get by on 9 hours sleep a day...jigsaws probably).

We had a similar issue too for a while. Like Hannah suggested, I resorted to walking and she'd end up falling asleep for a little while. The only problem there is that I didn't get to sleep while she did ( :( ) but the walking did energize me. I found a sling very useful as well (still do) I'd carry her in it and do something like vaccuum or laundry or just walk around in circles and sing or read a a book aloud and in a few minutes she'd fall asleep, then I'd put her in her bed and then I'd catch up on my sleep too.
