divorce in Finland

Post by Marybeng » Tue Oct 31, 2006 5:12 pm

I am an American married to a Finnish. I have been living in Finland over 15 years and have 3 children under 18. I am thinking of getting divorced to my alcoholic husband but I don't know my rights or where to go for help.

Well, sorry to hear that... OK, so firstly, where do you live at? - I mean every county has its own "place you go to". Family clinic for counceling as well as legal advice/someone to talk to and then theres also county legal aid, so to be able to link you right...

Sorry to hear about your situation Marybeng. Alcoholism can really destroy a family, for it affects for everyone. As Hank suggested, first you could try to seek some marriage counsel, but if that's not working or you have already tried that, you can find more information about divorce from here and here. More information you can find by visiting your local Maistraatti office.

Lappeenranta City Perheneuvola (family councelling) - they will know about the rest of the city services. The Church has one too. I'm more thinking either one of you to go unburden your heart to.

I would recommend the perheneuvola, they told me everything I needed
to know and gave the kids times to talk to someone. I'm sorry to hear
about your situation and wish you all the best!
