M&Ms Night Out - December!

Post by Shazzer » Mon Nov 06, 2006 9:07 pm

M&Ms!

Where shall we eat next night out? :D

Check these out! Others please feel free to add to the wishlist.

Japanese - Yume
Top notch Japanese restaurant. Elegant and contemporary interior featuring the four seasons. The chef I hear was a personal chef to the Ambassador of Japan. Machiko's family sake factory in Japan supplies the restaurant's sake. Private rooms for groups available.

Thai - Villa Thai
A leading Thai restaurant in Helsinki - lovely ambience with carved wooden furniture and a cosy section where diners get to sit "Siamese style".

Fusion - Mecca
This place I've wanted to try forever! Check out the menu (Tastes) - marinated frog's legs in satay dip...oooh yum :D

Well, something to think about especially for those of us who are around during the Christmas season!

Hi there!

I'd like to join the next night out. Of the mentioned restaurants I've only visited Yume, it was very very good but also very expensive. I'd say worth the money but cannot afford too often  They also had terribly blowing ventilation in some of the tables.
Mecca likewise probably offers good price-quality ratio, but is less expensive. I'd like to hear about Villa Thai from somebody who's visited it. Anyone? Before, I'd prefer Mai Thai for thai, since everyone I know to have visited it has been satisfied yet I've not been there for myself. Also Kruo Thai, Prik Thai and Kok Thai (names ;) have been good and inexpensive yet small and modest.
For japanese I've preferred Ichiban in Aikatalo for normal priced and good sushi, and Kabuki for other japanese dishes and also sushi. The latter is very popular and also quite expensive. Ichiban in rather small, I guess 6 persons fit in the biggest tables.

Summa summarum: It's Mecca for me!

Ok, we can shelf Yume for now. Let's keep that for a more special occasion!

I've read good reviews of the restaurant. (how are the portions like? I suddenly suspect it might be more a fashionable place to hang out rather than to tuck in!) :D Anyone been there?

I was pleasantly surprised with Villa Thai the first time I went there. It's not much more expensive than Mai Thai and the portions are bigger and they are quite generous with the ingredients. Mai Thai is ok except that it's the size of a shoebox! A rather tight fit for us M&Ms group.

Great to see we're gathering a crowd for the next night out already!

Hi,

I have been in Villa Thai restaurant once. In my opinion, the quality of the food is very good though little expensive but not much (it was about 80euros for two persons with starters and one drink). And there is a cozy section where diners get to sit in "Siamese style" as Shazzer mentioned above.

Ok ladies, it's set! After getting a general consensus from the M&Ms today, the next night out will be -

Date: December 15 (Friday)
Time: 6pm
Venue: Villa Thai (Bulevardi 28, Helsinki)

For more information, check out http://www.villathai.com

I've booked a table for 15 (there's no limit to how many can join of course), so please confirm participation so that I can update the reservation if necessary.

So once again to all M&Ms, old and new faces, a warm welcome for an evening to kick back, enjoy and relax...You deserve it! :star:
