Unbelievable

Post by muddymuddy1 » Sun Dec 03, 2006 3:21 pm

Splendid. I only asked what the intention of these pictures was ........ no response from the photographer ......... and a trail of vitriol from her admirers. If you only want bland platidutinous positive responses to whatever is posted, then please make that clear.

Well if you had spent 5 minutes and read some of the previous threads, you'd know the photographer's intentions quite clearly.

And I don't think she's answering to you as she's got something better to do during the light. Now how do I know that? Well as I happen to know how she takes her photos for the portfolio,

Platidutinous? So you're a malodrous pervert with a dictionary.

Well, I guess that was out of left field. :) I can take the question at face value and give the very obvious answer: I started posting the pictures are because a) I was encouraged quite a bit to do so (I get a lot of PMs about the pictures or to provide pictures with the histories I've previously posted of these buildings, and b) I find it easier to express my love of the areas and places of Finland in pictures and not in words.

If these were studio shots of kids in front of a backdrop, I wouldn't find much merit in posting them here. But these are shoots in and around espoo/helsinki/vantaa or unposed within a Finnish home. I hope to encourage parents living in Finland (hence the reason I post the pics here in the Families in Finland Index) to explore their areas and find inspiration in using them in their own pictures. Or, as in the case of a derelict building, to really open their eyes and see the fascinating hidden places of Southern Finland. I could just as easily been taking pictures of birds or mushrooms in front of the architecture but I use people because portraiture is what I enjoy and one day hope to have a career. Honestly, isn't that obvious?

So yes, I am a bit surprised that someone would take offense to an 11 year old girl, dressed in four layers and in very non provocative poses. I'm not claiming art at any time - but I am saying "look how beautiful Finland is - for its people and its landscapes". Should I get a dog and start putting him in front of the buildings instead or would that be dodgy as well? :)

I respect a difference of opinion and never ask anyone to like the pictures. But honestly I cannot find the merit or appreciable logic in why these are not appropriate here or why this forum's only mode of expression must be written and not graphic. Morever, I trust the board owner and if at any time he felt posting pics was inappropriate, I would immediately stop.

And Jussi: I do take the pictures down in a week - those are under a week old. :)

On the subject of photography... I think I am going slightly mad. I just bid on Ebay for a HP 320 digicam. You know, old, clunky, point & click... I have one at the cottage and it is one you can kick across the floor. Now I was just battling with a HP 407 and even that is too complicated (and battery life is crap). The thing is like the LOMO I like my "stuff" without too many moving parts. So I am probably getting rid of my old Pentax as well... *sigh* Yes, a luddite I am. Should get an old LEICA like R-32 is looking for...

Lomos are really popular right now :) There are whole communities devoted to sharing Lomo pics and a lot of people have written Lomo scripts :) Hard to believe of a cheap little Russian 'spy camera' that over exposed, over saturated and under contrasted its pics. :)

Holgas are really popular kitschy things too. Go figure :)

Actually I just bid on a Minox 35 as well. The LOMO is pretty good in good light, but with a flash and b&w film it might be worth the while. I'd like a 6x6 but its impossible to get, and get developed. Actually I'd have an old 6x6 one - my mom's compact. Wherever it is now...

Of course if I had too much dosh, I'd buy the Rolleiflex digi... its just *übercool*
