Odon - The processing time as quoted on the UVI website for applications which are clear and no problems is 18 months. I am not making it up. I have all my paperwork in order (including the language certificate). I will submit the application next year and see what happens. If I am lucky and it goes smoothly and I get my citizenship in 4 months I will be extremely happy. I am, however, realistic in my expectations. It took them 8 months to process my last residence permit renewal...so I am not holding out much hope for a 4 month citizenship application processing time.odon wrote:i don't know if i am a little skeptik with this whole post, but a african friend got his citizenship in 4 months, because he had his paper in order and he just completed 4 yrs after married to a finn, they tell u in uvi to check if u have every t and dots filled and certificates then it is an answer in 6 months
also the language cerificates in order

It also depends on if you live in Nowheremäki where you're the "county foreigner" or if you're in the Helsini region every Tom, Dick and Harry wants to apply for things... I guess the 18 months is something of a "expect this and get happy surprises" figure.
Cheers, Hank W.

Damn right Hank. One friend who lives in Espoo had to renew her residence permit as well and it took them 3 weeks. It is spot on to say that it all depends on where you live...at least for the Residence Permit.
I would think that the problem with the Citizenship application is that once the drone at UVI determines that the paperwork is there they have to send it to the Police for that whole criminal check thing..and we all know how fast the police process that stuff in Helsinki

Hi,
Well, at least, as far as I know, doesn't help if you are Nöwheremäki, all applications get sent to the UVI in Helsinki, who then sit them while staring at the ship pass by in the sea.
Somebody ought to tell them, it is never going to hatch and they are never going to have chickens or whatever it is they are hoping for.
Kind regards.

my friend, there is nothing stoping you if u have a clean record and have been working and paying taxes, the horror stories have been put up by those people who have come here and not intergrated ( language, job, etc) if u were holding a job, have the language papers, then when u'r paper reaches the uvi, there is no further clarifications required and it goes through....as quickly as possible...close to 6 months
but then if they spot a certificate missing, somewhere a few months missing, you bashed up someone in a drunken brawl, some bills not payed...then they put it in the other bin....for further clarification.....so it goes on for 16months to 60months.....and this foreigner goes around mourning,,,....yeah ..he is a saint...and the uvi mamas are sleeping on the asses.....blaa blaa and he says it to 3 more foreigners and they say to 6 more and then the horror story starts....
the other guy ...who got in 4-6 months smiles....does not shout...gets on a plane to the sunny spain...and live is good

Besides all your documents from abroad (your homecountry) will be verified/checked on authenticity. From EU-counties this is a relatively fast process, but except from the voting there is not much point in changing citizenship within the EU. From some other countries it takes forever and a day. The processing times at UVI are really not bad at all.

I've been living here like 5 years and been married for almost 6 years. Still haven't tried to get citizenship yet.
When I was in työvoimakoulutus, teachers said that we need a certificate from YKI test and have to be keskitaso or higher to apply for finnish citizenship.
Well.. I have the certificate already, but still no money for the fee
I heard it was like 400 euros to apply?
