Working Visa

Post by Jaikkanen » Fri Mar 02, 2007 2:23 pm

Back when i was enquiring about the woking holiday visa, i was briefly made aware of working visa's, study visa's etc. A study visa is what i primarily wanted, however they require you to have a crazy amount of saved funds. And back then a working visa seemed out of the question because i recall being told that you need SIGNIFICANT proof of competence in a trade.

I recently decided to reinvestigate the options of prolonging my stay, and when looking over working visa's it said nothing about showing competence in a specific trade. Infact all it really requested related to work is that I have an employer willing to hire me.

Due to my age, the experience i have so far in the work force is about 12 months in telecommunications. 6 months of that being in a call centre. And I have small I.T. qualifications i gained in a college, within Australia which i would think to be not recognized by Finnish authorities.

Whats the deal?

I didn't know 6000 euros was a crazy amount...

Getting the worker residence permit is "easy". Firstly, you will need an employer that really wants you, and who is willing to go through the paperwork and wait for the 3-6 months it takes to handle it. Then you have to convince the Ministry of Labor to give a favorable opinion, so there is nobody in the whole Eu welling or able to do the job. And then you have to collect your permit from Canberra where you filed it...

It's about.. 9000 - 10,000 aud i recall, and thats not easy to save. 3 - 6 months? So i need to find an employer 3 - 6 months prior to when i expect to start working for them?

I don't wish to leave Finland in the process, can i fill the forms and send them internationally? And i very much doubt it would be taken care of in Canberra as its only an honourary one. The Sydney consulate takes care of these to my knowledge. Though canberra can too, but they just send them to Sydney anyway.

I can have my permit then mailed back to me via an aunt or something then. Or is there business that is taken care of face to face?

See the principle they have is that a person is not allowed to pop over and expect to stay. And as living costs are what they are, sitting here and twiddling your thumbs is... hmmm... so they rather have the person in their own country waiting for the answer. And if it is a "no" then they also save on the deporting costs and petitions and so forth.

The finding a job without being in the country is a bit of a catch-22, and even finding a job and then filing.. read the thread called "stupid UVI decision" what happens.

Deporting costs? I don't quite understand, i have a return ticket for when my current visa ends. How do they find "twiddling my thumbs" inappropriate when they gave me a visa to allow me to do so for up to 9 months in their country.

I looked for "stupid UVI decision" couldn't find it, got a link?

Gosh, that UVI crap gave me one massive headache. And yeah, I remember asking the consulate if i could apply for a different visa while in Finland, they said not to be in the country.

Gosh thats so messed up. I mean, technically.. I'm holidaying, My home is officially Australia. Who's to say I don't reside in Australia. Apply everything in assumptiono of my Australian residence. It's no different from applying while in Australia, and perhaps going on holiday during the time i wait. And perhaps avoiding this @#$% up tangle.

Would be ok if i could just temporarily reside in a near by country, but it seems that won't help too much either, according to a posted reply.

Working permit - a possibility

Post by zoljin » Sat Mar 03, 2007 1:00 pm

Hey,

I have found it possible as I was offered a job in the UK. I'm originally from Israel, 24 y.o, working in the IT industry (information security related) for the past 6 years, in which I've gained few certificates (CISA, for instance).

Here's how the so-called "catch-22" works: Must you provide full evidence of your unique skills and finding an international recruiter. Once placed in the EU, finding a job (anywhere there) would be much easier (for both - the employee and employer) for if the employer's paperwork is tremendously reduced.

Best of luck.

Wel, you got camels and sand as well, so getting an Australian to Finland is about the same if you think of it...

Wild Camels? Where'd you get your information.
Btw, how do they install internet connections into your igloo anyway? And do they send out trained polarbears to do the job?

Zoljin, I'm not exactly sure what the heck you just told me. If im going to apply for a working visa, I will NEED to find an employer that believes in the skills for whatever job I want. They aren't gonna say "hmm, well your @#$%' useless, but what the heck, im feeling like a nice guy today".

And in no way does that have anything to do with what we were speaking about. Which is UVI disliking working visa applications from those who currently reside in Finland at the time.

.. But thanks. :D

I know, darling, I know.
Simply offering an alternative (a way to gain a second chance?). :)

Don’t take it too seriously :)

Gotta feel sorry for those penguins, always over worked and under paid. It's borderline slavery.
