Advice on moving

Just last year, April 2006, I travelled to England to pick up my car and bring it back to Finland (Oulu). I took a similar route to that which has already been suggested here;

Ferry: Newcastle -> Gothenburg (24 hours on ferry)
Drove: Gothenburg -> Stockholm (around 8 hours)
Ferry: Stockholm -> Turku (About 8 hours I think)
Drove: Turku -> Oulu. (Can't remember! )

It was a really nice trip, and I got to spend a full day in Stockholm as the ferry didn't leave for Finland until late at night, found a great little record shop and got some LPs I'd been after for a while. Stockholm seemed like quite a relaxed city.

The only bad bit of the trip was because of my car's lights, they are possibly the worst ever built and as it started to get dark and rainy, I was reduced to crawling along the 110km/h roads at around 60-80 switching to full beam whenever possible just so I could see. But that's a problem you probably won't have! Oh, and finding the Hilton hotel in Stockholm's central maze. That was awful.

I used the Newcastle - Kristiansand - Göteborg ferry too, but if I understand correctly, DFDS cancelled the route late last year. I read it was competition from budget airlines which killed demand for the service.

Göteborg - Stockholm took me just over 5 hours.

Stockholm rocks.

Didn't hear about the route cancellation, that would be a shame as it was quite an easy way to get over to Sweden.
