Cost of 20ft sealed container to from Finland / UK
Just for anyone who is interested just got quote for 35 cu mt container. Inclusive cost from depot in Helsink, container hire, paperwork etc, delivered to east coast of UK. 2000 €
Axtually cheaper to rent a van and drive here from UK, but its painful.
Once you want to move more than 10 cubic mts its cheaper to use a container (They said)
I reccon its about 500 euro over priced but then no other finnish company even bothered to quote or reply. They must have so much work, they can afford to be fussy I guess.

They really care for your business, its essential for them. Like the millions moving from Nowheremäki to Inaonmala really do cause the competition in pricesSaxonManFinland wrote:I reccon its about 500 euro over priced but then no other finnish company even bothered to quote or reply. That was from Viktor Ek. Polite, helpful but more than I expected. What annoys me is there are three other closer ports, even depots 2+ ks away from me, and these companies operate out of these ports and claim to "Specialise" in UK Freight didn't even reply, call or acknowledge.penelope wrote:Did you try Viktor Ek? I heard their prices were quite competitive.

A handy thread, thank you for sharing the information, SaxonManFinland.
Just an appeal to your collective knowledge and experience, does any of you happen to know how the distance between the 2 countries afect the price?..
I consider moving to the ME, just consider (that's why I don't request any detailed quotes from any companies), and among other factors in my thinking about it there's also that one about what to do with my apartment here and how doable/financially worth it would be for me to move my stuff over there (which is all brand new, nice and not cheap so I wouldn't want to just give it up nor to have it rented out along with my apartment here)...
If any of you has ANY estimates, experiences or guesses please share them with me - what APPROXIMATELY would be the cost and duration of moving a single person's not too loaded household (sorry, I have no idea about the cubic meters I'll need, my typical kaksio is furnished about 70%) from Helsinki to Dubai? 3K eur? 5? 10? Will customs add another couple of thousand?
Thank you so very much for any information.

Not really painful. I have driven that trip many times and it is quite do-able.
When are you planning on moving this stuff? I am planning a car trip over to collect some things. Maybe it would be possible to pool resources and bring things over from the UK and take your stuff back, rather than have a van making one half of the journey empty.

Looks like mid to end of August now. Still cannot find a cheaper shipper AND REALLY PISSED OF because people we know moved a 20ft container to New Zealand for €3200, which is the other side of the friggin world and that was from Imatra, not Helsinki. Imatra to Helsinki is €500 minimum either self drive lorry or them delivering and moving container.DMC wrote:> Axtually cheaper to rent a van and drive here from UK, but its painful.

Some web sites give Cost per Cubic Metre and it seems of little difference your total distance by sea, more to do with which port.
I do not need to know you will attend my Funeral. I would rather you call just to say Hi !!

Are you really talking about 2.000€ for 35 cbm?SaxonManFinland wrote:Just for anyone who is interested just got quote for 35 cu mt container. Inclusive cost from depot in Helsink, container hire, paperwork etc, delivered to east coast of UK. 2000 €

I got the following quotation from Helsinki to Holland:
for 5 cbm we can offer 2100,00 + vat 22% (from travelcargo)
Can you please share (also with PM if you prefer) your contact? I would be interested in a cheaper rate.
Also I wonder which company can rent a small van one way. Any idea?
Cheers,
Marco
Im a little curious how you would actually drive from Finland to the UK? I want to make this journey by car in a few years time for fun. What is the route that you took? I was thinking through Sweden and Norway and then get a ferry to Scotland. Is this what you did? or did you go through mainland Europe? which i can imagine would take a VERY long time.DMC wrote:> Axtually cheaper to rent a van and drive here from UK, but its painful.

There are loads of routes, it is possible to take the ferry to Estonia and drive all the way to England (via the Channel tunnel).COBHC wrote:Im a little curious how you would actually drive from Finland to the UK? With a longer ferry trip you can go Hanko-Rostock, then drive from Germany to England.
Ferry to Stockholm, drive Oslo-Kristiansand-Stavanger & then ferry to Newcastle.
Ferry to Stockholm, drive to Copenhagen across the Oresund Bridge, drive to Calais through mainland Europe or drive to the west coast of Denmark and take the Esbjerg-Harwich ferry.
Millions of permutations, I've done 2 of them and one that no longer exists (Gothenburg ferry from Newcastle).
The best one as a holiday starting in the Lake District -> Liverpool -> London -> Paris -> Luxembourg -> Brussels -> Amsterdam -> Cologne -> Berlin -> Hamburg -> Copenhagen -> Gothenburg -> Stockholm -> Turku -> Helsinki IIRC we did it over 16 days so the driving was quite manageable, very few legs were more than 500km.

I have tried several routes, but never even considered that one!
I usually want the quickest route, so I maximise the distance I travel by land and minimise the distance on ferries. The route I prefer is:
- Ferry to Stockholm
- Drive to Malmo & Oresund bridge to Denmark (though the Helsingborg-Helsingor ferry is also OK and gives a natural break from driving).
- Drive accross Denmark to Rodbyhavn
- Ferry to Puttgarden in Germany
- Drive passing Hamburg, Bremen, Osnabruck, Duisberg, Venlo, Einhoven, Antwerp and then head for one of the channel ports.
I have also tried a ferry from Goteborg to ??? (can't remember), a ferry from Helsinki to Travemunde, and a ferry from Hamburg to Harwich. Also tried a ferry to Tallin and drive down through Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, poland and pick up my normal route in Germany. The route detailed above is my preference though. It doesn't take long - an overnight ferry to Stockholm and 20 to 24 hours later I can be home in Glos.
Coming here from the UK I take the same route, but the timing is more awkward because if you miss the ferry to Finland you have to wait a long time for the next one. Plus the time zones work against you. So coming that way I generally take a morning cross-channel ferry and catch the ferry from Stockholm the following evening.
