well to be careful, you should of course take to the high chair testing station!

.... OK, I'm kidding, why would it not be assuming it's secure?

The only things I would advise against buying second hand are a car seat and a matress for the baby.
I cant see what would be wrong with a high chair...though dried on carrot puree does tend to cement itself on!

We re giving away our car seat with stroller ( from the US) ..
Mebbe mattress, bust I still dont see a problem buying second hand those things when you can get some of em for free...
If your first logic is true, then you logic about high chair is also the same..Whats the problem there..
Of course its your Opinion..thats an entirely different matter..

I didn't get what the concerns about a car set or mattress were either.

A car seat can be damaged in an accident, it can be damaged with just by dropping the thing. I would want to know the exact history of a car seat before putting my child in one. Even if friends give them to you, you still dont know how bashed about they have been. It isn't worth the risk of buying a faulty car seat. Also car seats only have a certain life-span to them (I cant remember how many years), can you be guarenteed that it is well within it's life span.

As far as matresses go, they need to fit the cot properly (and cots come in all sorts of shapes and sizes) other wise they are unsafe, they have also been puked on and weed on. Some older matresses dont conform to the various standards around as they are not fire retardant or they are made of materials that are toxic. Foam ones also become saggy and unsuppotive.

Free is good, I'm not doubting that, but safety first.

PS I am not one of those paranoid mothers., just google it.

I think it was either 4 or 5 years

No you're not. I didn't want to get a secondhand car seat either.

Oh and remember when I said that my daughter couldn't get out of the Stokke? Oh weeeell  .... I take my words back. Seems the young lady learned a new trick last weekend when we visited her cousins  Mamma's not amused :x

I totally agree with Hanna. Items such as bicycle helmets or car seats should never be second hand for safety reasons. You never know what kinda knocks they had endured. and mattresses for hygiene reasons. (gross.. :? )
