Hi there!
Congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm 15 weeks but sadly live 'up North' in Oulu, so won't be able to meet up - argh!
I'm just starting to need to wear maternity clothes so need to go out shopping! Not easy when your DH hates trawling around shops! Plus, apart from H&M here, I'm not sure where else to look. Any ideas on who stocks Maternity clothes? Do Stockmann have a range? I presume Lindex will sell some. I need to buy a 'decent' maternity dress for my friend's wedding in 2 weeks - eek!
Anyway, I'm usually always around, lurking, if ever you want to chat!
Take care,
Penny

Hi Penny!
Thanks for your message and congrats to you as well! I wish I can help you with the maternity dress question but I'm new here so not really familiar with shops etc. I'm sure someone else would post you an answer!
Well do you have skype id?? Mine is hironomagi if you have skype. Would love to chat.

hi Penny & H,
I'm 21 weeks along...glad I found this thread!
How are you gals feeling so far? I agree, the choice of affordable maternity clothes in Finland is rather sad. I got an ok top from H&M recently but I've a feeling another shopping trip is coming up as my regular jeans are beginning to feel a little tight!
Hannah, thanks for the info about mums meeting up in Stockmann. I'll join you guys when the baby has popped

Hello Penny and congratulations!
Unfortunately, I don't think Oulu has much of a selection of maternity clothes.
Other than H&M there is Jasmin, a small boutique, on the 4th floor of Stockmann. It's expensive though you may find something smart there.
Last year when I was pregnant I mostly ordered clothes online from Next, funmum and JoJo Maman bebe. I had them delivered to someone in the UK who then posted them on to me.
I take it you're British from your flag so maybe you could do the same if you have contacts in the UK.

Hope you find something.

Hope to see you soon

Aw...thanks for your messages with congrats everyone! So glad to have found this post!
Yeah I went to H&M at the weekend in Oulu and bought a few bits but totally agree with what you say KatGrrl about how the maternity clothes are expensive in other shops here!
Oh and Julie, funny you should mention FunMum, Jojo Maman Bebe and of course the ever-faithful 'Next' as I have been browsing them religiously for the last few weeks! The postage prices on some of the sites (the 'few' that actually deliver here) are extortionate when I'm not really buying that many bits! Good idea on asking someone to post them for me at home, yes I'm British (hubby's a Finn), originally from Surrey.
I am going to Dublin in a few weeks though so will definitely take an empty suitcase with me! Great to hear from another 'Oulu-ite' on here though! If you have any other tips on pre-natal things (hehe can you tell this is my first?!), I'd be grateful to receive them!
H - I do have Skype so I'll try and find you tomorrow!
Take care everyone,
Penny x

Oooh Hannah you were from the far nicer part of Surrey then (lucky!) - I moved here from Shirley, just outside of Croydon. I loved Kingston though!scoobymcdoo wrote:"Originally from Surrey"
Me too! Kingston Upon Thames to be exact! My mum is down near Guildford now!
We were recently asked to write an article for Woman magazine about life for expats in Finland, it is in the shops now I think!
Small world!
Hannah
I'd love to read this article, let me know if you get to see it published!

It was out last week but I scanned a copy into Sophie's blog...
http://sophieqc.blogspot.com/
They stuck fairly to close to what I'd written, there are a few inaccuracies, but on the whole it is quite an ok article- my Finnish friends quite enjoyed it.
