We may be moving to Joensuu in July & we would like our 3 kids to attend an English speaking kindergarten there. In Sept they will be 2, 3 1/2 & 5. Our eldest has been attending an international school for the last year (in Singapore) & is therefore starting to read/write - so I need the programme to be more structured than I hear most Finnish kindergartens are.
Can you help? Also need to know costs.
Thanks

The above link will give you a list of all the municipal daycare centres. As far as I can tell none of them is English speaking. I tried browsing on the site but couldn't find any links to private daycare centres. I suggest you send an email to the health and welfare dept at the town hall:

The Finnish national core curriculum gives guidelines for teaching children aged 6-16 yrs. Children age 6 receive pre-school education at their daycare establishment, it is free and the municipality must provide it. But there is no obligation to offer this education in English. Kids start primary school in the year they turn 7.
As far as I know there are no private schools in Joensuu, but I might be wrong.
It is very difficult to find any daycare places for kids under 3.
I think the best solution will be to call the municipality directly and ask them for advice.
