I think you have put on some extra weight... but if you are breast-feeding it is best not to go on a diet just yet. As you become more active again you will lose some of it. Then maybe in summer you can just try eating more salads etc. Everyone is different. I had 3 kids and went from 50 to 63 all three times. I never weighed myself coming out of hospital but I think I could just about get into most of my old clothes, maybe not my jeans. I lost the other kgs by the time I stopped breastfeeding (about 5 months). I wouldn't bother buying new clothes (unless you want to  ) I think you will shed the weight in the summer.

Friends' experiences

Post by ailema4ever » Mon Apr 02, 2007 3:56 pm

Hi! I have never gotten pregnant yet, but some of my close friends have.

A friend of mine gained 12 kgs during pregnancy and she lost 9 kgs in 4 months. She got back to being a full-time worker when the baby was 3 months old.

Another friend gained 17 kgs during pregnancy and she lost 14 kgs in 6 months.

They both lost weight because of the busy life of being a Mom (they said the both had 3 kgs left to get rid of)...they both breastfed (at least for 3 months).

GOOD LUCK!!! :D

And I gained 28 and 30 kilos

Starting from 50 kilos and ending up to 80. I am one of those people who just by saying aloud "hormones" turns into a hippopotamus. Both times I lost almost all of it in about 9-10 months (anyway, under a year) and ended up being 54 kilos and that is where I have stayed all my life afterwards. 50 was too skinny anyway. (Except a time when doctors insisted that all women of certain age need hormones. I gained immediately 10 kilos and then lost it right after I stopped eating those hippo pills)

Don´t diet, it will go away. And the longer you manage to breastfeed, the easier and faster it goes. Breast feeding is a huge calorie burner. But do go and buy some new clothes because it does not happen overnight, and new clothes that fit you make you feel better about it.

congratulations on the birth of your baby!
i had my son nearly 3 months ago and i have now lost all of the 14 kg i gained with him and pretty much all of my old clothes fit me, but i still do have a bit of a belly, so some of them look kind of funny on me...
anyway, i'd say that breastfeeding is the best thing to do to loose weight right now and if your old clothes don't fit buying some new ones, for until you're back to your prepregnancy body, does sound like a good idea...

wow! I was 76 kgs before my 1st pregnancy, & ´have just had 3 in 3 & half years & lost more & more weight each time, but there again, I have breastfed each one for over a year, we don´t have a car & my main hobby is cycling! (I was cycling in the last month of pregnancy every time, crazy me!)
But I have to say it is not the weight that is the problem, but the stretch marks! Will they ever go away???
However, I seem many british mums getting bigger & bigger as theý use breastfeeding as anexcuse just to pig out even more. but DON´T DIET, let it go naturally! Do more exercise to tone up too!
Good lcuk with the new baby!

I just had my first baby last summer. Before pregnancy: 63kg
Before labor: 75kg
Leaving hospital: 70 kg
4 months later: 65kg
8 months later: 61kg

Still breastfeeding and on strict diet due to baby's allergies. So I'm very skinny now, but my skin hasn't still recovered as fast and is still bit too loose on my stomach.

Hi, there really isn't an average time frame for regaining your pre-pregnancy weight, basically some women return to their pre-pregnancy weight easily and others don't, a lot of women find it especially difficult to regain the elasticity in their stomachs for obvious reasons. I'd say just buy yourself some clothes, its a tall order to get into your old clothes within a couple of weeks of having a baby, a year seems to be a more realistic time, just enjoy your new baby and give yourself a break!

I'd just like to say as far as British women using breastfeeding as an excuse to pig out - I'd say that was a fairly universal trait in a lot of hormonal/exhausted Mums and not exclusive to us Brits!

nopa,
your body changes in the 9 months your pregnant,it wil take that long, even longer for it to go back the way it was.as caroline said some bodies change after birth and are never the same.i had matilda 6 months ago,i have changed size a few times since then.go buy the clothes, treat yourself you will feel nice and thats important too for yourself.i myself have left the importance of getting into the" kate moss jeans "again,it doesnt seem important anymore...

I know it ain't easy but... try to find someone to look after babe for an hour every couple of days and get yourself some Nordic walking sticks. It is great for your general well-being and nice to get out on your own or with a friend for a while. It is difficult to walk fast with a pram...!

As Penelope says:
try to find someone to look after babe for an hour every couple of days
... that would REALLY help!
Me, I have NEVER had more than 3 hours without my kids, in nearly 4 & half years, I would LOVE some time for myself, but it just doesn´t seem to happen! I often get hubby to have one or 2 for a few moments but hardly ever! Still staying just about sane though!

Oooo! Totally agree. Also had three boys inside four years.... and I never had any time to myself after that. In fact, the youngest is 10 now (11 next month) and I am starting to get a life again... at least when I am NOT driving them to football matches, watching floorball tournaments, taking them to guitar lessons, helping them with homework etc etc. It's tough when you are in a foreign country with no family close by to help out.
