Hello. This is a hard topic for me to post, but am curious if anyone can offer any advice for holiday activities or family oriented support groups here in Helsinki area for young singles estranged from family members?
Not necessarily interested in religious groups, but perhaps more service oriented volunteer services, etc. for holidays, or just in general. Seeking surrogate "family" network.

Darn, I would be so lucky if the remnants of my idiotic family would stop bugging me. *sigh* Yeah, I know the feeling sometimes during big festivities.
But stuff does exist - say like http://www.eurosinkut.net - it is a "singles club" in a sense, but not as in totally dating-agency kind of way. They "organize stuff". I go with them to the opera, and been to a few other things, a new years party once etc. Now of course there is this thing that most of the stuff happening is Finnish, but they don't bite.
Now another good one is http://www.jollydragon.net - they "organize stuff" as well, maybe not opera but still worth a look.
Not that these would be any touchy-feely-grouphug formations, if you're looking for those kind of groups then you need to get someone better versed in kooks, theres about 1001 different groups and organizations in the Helsinki area alone.

I actually do participate in some of the activities on Jolly Dragon. It is about 50% Finns, and just enough foreigners to make the Finns relax and have fun a bit.
No, not looking for group hugs. I would have really picked the wrong country if I was looking for that fuzzy-wuzzy stuff.
No, but seriously, Jolly Dragon is nice for activities, but it is a lot of young people, like me. I am really looking for ideally something like a surrogate family network to adopt in a sense. Some older, mentor, mature type people to have coffee and adult conversation with. Parent figures if you will, as I have parented myself for most of my life, and feel it would be nice to have someone else give me sensible advice for a change. I'm not looking for any kind of financial support or obligations or anything. Just a sense of purpose and belonging over holidays and when you feel the need to belong to a close-knit group.
I think this feeling could be substituted by doing some kind of volunteer service work or something where you are doing some kind of activity with others that contributes to something more than yourself, but in return, you get that warm fuzzy feeling that I imagine you would get in a supportive family unit. I adore Finland in all aspects, the only thing missing for me is a sense of belonging to something that accepts you and supports you in a consistent close/family type way.
