I thought that it was normal part of your Hospital visit..but I may be wrong..
Have you contacted your Neuvola or the hospital that you are going to give birth at?

pre-natal classes are part of the normal deal, but of course they're in Finnish. The missus did come back from the health center with a flyer for pre-natal classes in English. If I remember correctly it was held in Mechelinenkatu. The best thign todo is to have a look around the health center or ask your neuvola.

I would also ask your neuvola. Mine was doing one in English for another expecting mother and me.

As far as I know there is also someone from the Bebes shop as Kamppi doing something like this. I would also ask there.

The neuvola nurse Patricia Siljama was teaching a course in English language in Herttoniemi in the end of 2005 and then again in spring 2006. Suppose she is still having these courses in English every couple of months; you could try to call the Herttoniemi Health Centre to get her contact information.

Still help needed for birth preparation in english

Post by fannette » Wed Aug 08, 2007 11:32 am

Thank you to all of you for your replies.
The midwife at Neuvola didn't know what haptonomy is... and she doesn't know about any birth preparation class in english.

I've called the Haikaranpesa in Katiloopisto, and they actually dont accept non-finnish speaking couples  and they didn't know about a birth preparation class in english.

The flyer they have in the Bebe shop (Kampi - by the way excellent for maternity clothes!) is about Mama latino dance or help for breat feeding. So no big help for the birth neither.

Anybody knowing something else? MammaYoga classes or anything? In the worst case, i'll just take a deep breath and shout like crazy during 15 hours. At a certain point the baby will most certainly come out

ps: any birth preparation support in french, german or spanish is welcome as well :P

There is a German-speaking Midwife, maybe she can help you

I am sure that there is something organized by the Bebes shop. I know someone who participated. Did you ask the owner?

Hello Bavarian Girl. Herzlichen Dank fuer den Tip :D
I'll call her asap.

About Bebe shop, i didn't ask the owner, i just looked at the flyer that where on the caiser desk. i'll go back and ask the owner.

I could register for a Katiloopisto visit (in english) end of August, which is supposed to include a short introduction about "how to give birth"... let's see!

Thanks to all of you for your precious advises and help.

bye bye
