And then people complain Finland is bureaucratic with silly name laws

The Finnish language does really not have the letter "g", even less in the beginning - except in loan words. So even then Gisela is pronounced more often 'Kisela' (never with a soft french dzheee in any case), so you'd probably name it 'ghoti' and call 'fish'.

You could always thou name it 'goira' or even better 'gissa', especially if its from Turku

Then again, Lapland...there might well be some Sami names starting with 'G'

No Finnish name, male or female, starts with G. That is an alien letter to Finnish. There might be someting in Sámi, though. They use G. And since it is lapinkoira that would be more than suitable I think.

Without going into too much detail, the letters B, C, D, F, G, Q, W, X, and Z all belong to the Finnish alphabet, but at the end of the day, they’re considered “foreign” and “non-Finnish”, to varying degrees. Finding a Finnish name that begins with the letter “G” might thus be a challenging task, largely because G is not usually used in Finnish words (except for the “ng” combination and some dialects and slang.)

If you can accept some Swedish influence, Swedish-speaking Finns might be able to help you out with this, though.

Err... how they are written of course... I still am amazed you can diagnose dyslexia in France - write eau and say ööö ... http://www.mikropuhe.fi/demo has a talking robot.

Like Hank says: The way they are written. OK, I have forgotten phonetic transcription, so I just try with a stupid example. For example Gollá:

"Go" like "go" in gone. "lla" like "la" in Laos, only the tongue stays in the palate a little longer so the l comes long (because there are two l´s).

You find the Sápmi phonetic transcription here: http://www.omniglot.com/writing/saami.htm

I don´t know any Sápmi, so I cannot tell the meanings. But after all, they are female names, so they cannot be very ridiculous. Who would want to give his/her daughter a ridiculous name?

And I have noticed that Tessu & co are not so usual dog names noways, I know dogs named Pirjo, Doris and Paavo.
