Jacques Villeneuve the 1997 Formula World Champion just signed to drive NASCAR with a Toyota team!! However unlike like Montoya who is having an exeptional rookie season, Villeneuve is to start testing in the truck series which is sort of 3rd tier. After the trucks its the BUSCH series before Nextal. His first truck race is in 3 to 4 weeks time.
shame they don't show the truck series here.. I'd love to see what kinda trucks they are, since I drive one myself...Mattlill2000 wrote:Jacques Villeneuve the 1997 Formula World Champion just signed to drive NASCAR with a Toyota team!! yeah, but they all have the same chassis too...Mattlill2000 wrote:I agree, but its all aerodynamics now. They have found the secrets of a "slippery" design which creates less drag. Too bad it all looks the same.
Yes.....wasn't that beast the number 2 called the "Superbird"??? An awesome classic!!!!

Actually they don't. The big manufacturers are still big in the game and while they look the same on the outside, they are all Chevys, Fords, Dodges etc. Now Toyota has stepped in big time and haven't done too well except in the truck series where they're number 1.same chassis
Ahhhh.....the Mercury Cougar...........Never seen one in Finland yet.

I understood that with the car of tomorrow they'd be pretty much the same all the parts...Mattlill2000 wrote:Actually they don't. Now if I really had the money and lived in Texas... I'd drop in at the Unique Performance to pick up Chip Foose's version of the '69 Camaro SS.

There was a blue one in Malmi, an early one and IIRC a metallic gold one a bit later. I had more sense than money when I was younger, should have kept my 65 Comet...Mattlill2000 wrote: Ahhhh.....the Mercury Cougar...........Never seen one in Finland yet.
Oh, and I've seen a 1st generation Rambler Marlin (66) as well talking about "rare"... was sitting without engine in Pitäjänmäki for a long time...
Cheers, Hank W.

I know nothing about American cars but I am currently involved in a project for which we need one. The plan is to do La Carrera Pan Americana (AKA the Mexican Road race) next year, and the first step is to find the car. It will be sourced and prepared in the USA. Most likely candidate currently is a '68 Mustang. It seems they are cheap and can be prepared at an acceptable cost. Maybe $25K or so can produce something reasonable. OK, it won't compete with the guys who run NASCAR cars with an old-style body on, but it should be fun.
The big problem is that the rules require a 4-speed gearbox, and it isn't at all clear what to use. Strong 5-speed boxes are available but 4-speed boxes seem to be too weak or expensive. Anyone know anything about this?
