Finland to UEFA Euro 2008

Post by prowler80 » Thu Aug 23, 2007 11:30 am

What do you think about Finland's hopes to reach the finals of the Euro 2008 in Austria and Switzerland? Maybe this year they have a possibility they shouldn't miss, much will depend on the game in Serbia I guess...

They need, at the very least, a draw against Serbia, following that with victory at home to Poland. 4 points from those two game and anything can happen. It's a tough group, but Serbia, Portugal and Poland all have to play each other, which is a bonus.

So, four points , then deal with Azerbaijan at home and Belgium away (forget Portugal away for now)...thing is, it would be nice for Finland to qualify, but they have to do it without Old Man Litmanen and they're not good enough, going on recent performances...

Situation is laid out here

Greetings everybody, I've been looking for a Finnish Football forum and I finally found one. I want to introduce myself, my name is George (aka Molon Lave) and I'm Greek. I reside in Houston, Texas, USA. I have been following your Finnish national team since Roy Hodgson took over for the Finland national side in 2006. He's a great coach! I believe in my heart Finland CAN go to Euro 2008 if they can get some good results for the following 3 matches (Serbia, Poland, Belgium), first they have to take care of Serbia. It's hard to get a result in Belgarde, but nothing these days are impossible. I think the 2 players who should step it up are Mika Vyranen and Jussi Jaaskulianen. They play an important role for Finland.

If the Portugese already qualify for Euro 2008, they might "give away" the match to Finland on the final day. Finland proved they can win without Litmanen.

Here are my predictions:

Saturday 08.09.2007
SERBIA - FINLAND 21:15 (finnish time)
3-1 for Serbia (it should be an opened game, both teams need to win...)

PORTUGAL - POLAND 23:00 (finnish time)
0-0 (Poland gonna defend like a turtle, efficiently enough)

Wednesday 12.09.2007
PORTUGAL - SERBIA 21:45 (finnish time)
2-0 (Portugal is good, but Serbia is not expected to play shyly)

FINLAND - POLAND 21:45 (finnish time)
1-0 for Finland, that would be a great result... and a needed one if Finland would have indeed lost against Serbia.

Best news in a long time.

Nemanja Vidic can't play. Suspended. He was a real pain in the side in the Helsinki game. Useful player.

They've also lost their other central defender Krstajic for the next three weeks, but he would have been out anyway as HE's got two bookings to serve as well. But it will be interesting to see who they put at the back. And a good moment for Finland to discover an ability to finish properly.

Minimum 9 points needed from those, including three from the Poland game or the game's pretty much up.

Yup tend to agree with that. I think the points that threw away at Armenia ans Azer.... will come back to haunt them.

itll be poland portugal with finland missing out by 1 or 2 points

Finland can make up those lost points by getting victories from Poland, Belgium, and Azerbaijan.

Once they play Portugal, Finland only needs a draw, a loss may still put them in Euro 2008 depending on the result from Serbia - Poland.
