Finnish people looking for jobs in London

Post by Kate85 » Fri Sep 14, 2007 7:58 pm

Hello!

I work for a company that does online advertising in countries across the world. We're a very multilingual company, but we don't have any Finnish speakers. We're looking to find someone fluent in Finnish (probably a native speaker) who wants to work in London. Do you have any idea what kind of sites we should advertise on? We've had no luck with Scandinavian sites, so are there any really popular Finnish job sites?

If we can't find someone to work inhouse then we're also looking for people willing to some translation work for us. It'll be an hourly wage and the rate is competitive.

Or, does anyone want a job in Camden, North London? 20k basic salary, commission after you've passed the 3 month probationary period and we're a lovely bunch. We also have massage chairs! Only qualifications needed are Finnish and a brain.

If anyone has any advice then please get in touch. I'll be forever in your debt. Thanks!

Also the finnish embassy has good contacts with finnish people, as well as they usually allow job adds on their notice board... (at least the one in dublin did).
But what shall it profit a people if they satisfy all material desires, but leave for their children nothing, only a wasteland.

Now you can go to the yob centre and put an EURES advert through to MOL. However be assured you'll be inundated with applications then.

Ah, if I was only younger. How much does spamalot pay?

but then again, usually translation work requires some sort of education background or very good natural linguistic skills. Most companies don't even hire people with out translation/interpretation studies for that sort of work.

tummansininen wrote:This is true. I'd have to wonder at their chances of finding a qualified translator who's a native Finnish speaker and already in London, too. Maybe the poster will clarify whether they need quals. It's all well and good to pay the normal salary to an English/French bilingual, because there are so many of them that someone will always accept "any" job. But qualified Finns? I'd say they're far more rare and able to be choosier.
actually £20k would be a decent salary (the average 2500e/mo) in Finland, I thought she suggested that some of work could be done remotely... could that be done from Finland...

I wouldn't mind at all. Even inventing an address and a bank account in the UK as long as I don't have to show up for weekly staff meetings

Sadly our company has never worked in spam. We advertise for clients on search engines such as Google and Yahoo. We also don't make pop-ups or pose as Nigerian businessmen.

Although we have one guy working at our company who trained as an interpreter for the UN, most of us are fresh out of university with no formal language training at all. All an applicant would need to do is be able to read and write Finnish fluently.

Thanks a lot for your help, guys. I'll try out the places you said. Unfortunately we've had no luck with Gumtree, but I'm not giving up!

Thanks again.

Gumtree is probably more for doss-sleeping, pint swinging, 'mate-mate' southern types (like me  )...you need to try here..

or just go to the Finnish church, have a sauna, stock up on your glassware and chocolate..and put a notice on the board

not a decent pay...

Actully, I wouldn't say that 2500e /mth is a decent TRAINED salary for an in-house translator even in Finland anymore...I've seen ads offering to pay up to 3200e (for a qualified person, but then again, Finland IS full of qualified people!)

The joy of this job is that if you're good then your commission can be more than your basic wage. I have no relevant qualifications (I have a law degree from Oxford) but that didn't matter because most of the training is done on the job.
