Apologies if this is in the worng forum!
I live in UK and my daughter lives in Finland with her mother.
I have been trying to contact my daughters school for over 2 years without success. I made initial contact by phone and then silence.
I have written to the school about 10 times, The Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London have also forwarded letters on my behalf, this has also been done through the British Embassy in Helsinki.
I have also tried by e-mail.
I have recently managed to get a reply from a teacher who since moved to another school, he seemed happy to help me and now even he has gone silent.
It seems i just cannot get a reply at all.
I only wnat to be kept informed of my daughters schooling, like any parent and of course the opportunity to purchase school photos.
Can anyone tell me is there a guideline for schools to follow in Finland, with regards to parents and shall we say absent parents.
any info greatly appreciated
contact with schools

I am sure the silence is due to the fact that they cannot give out information about their students without the permission of the guardian.
I am guessing that you do not have a good relationship with the mother, but I would assume that the best method for finding out on progress of your daughter's education must be via her.
Although I do not know the situation, I would concentrate on the authorities who can make her mother inform you of your daughter's status, not on trying to make direct contact with the schools which could be used against you at a later date.

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.
Thank you
Thanks for your reply
When I initially made contact with the school, I followed it up with a letter and a copy of my Finnish court order which states i can recieve info from schools, docs etc,
Having said that and maybe I am a little naive, if you take the time to write a nice polite letter to a school, surely it is polite to reply! even if they are unable to help.
So even though I am a parent, the school does not have to even acknowledge me........
and my daughters mother has decided not to keep us informed of anything for 3 years now.
its a very sad situation, all i want is info on my daughters education.

Primary schools are controlled by the Board of Education at the local council offices ("koulutuskeskus" in Finnish) of the town in which the school is located. You could try to contact their offices by phone/email. You can find that information by searching on the webpages under http://www.nameoftown.fi
For example I live in the city of Espoo and my son's school office is here:
